Costume Revealed - BBC Breakfast 8:45 Tomorrow!

So, his costume appears to be that of Dr Jones when he's in the classroom.

I don't mind at all - the reason is obvious (it's unusual for someone of Smith's age, but not stupidly "costumey").

I wonder if the next Master will wind him up by calling him "Captain Slow" all the time, though...

He doesn't have to look like an old, wise doctor; the 9th looked a bit rough and the 10th looked very young, but both had some subtle qualities that let you know there was more under there then you'd realize at first sight. But this... this just looks very, very strange.

Before I make any judgment, I'd like to see him on screen. However, a tweed jacket, skinhead shoes (with rolled up pants), a waiter's bow-tie and a very strange wig-like haircut? I have a sneaking suspicion I won't like it at all... It doesn't suit any facet of the image I have of the doctor.

The girl looks just as weird, with that heavy bush of hair on her round head.

All he needs now are the leather patches over the elbows, and he'd be perfect!

But seriously, I dig the new "1930s archaeology lecturer" look. :bolian:

Someone here once posted a picture of the 10 doctors, showing that the changing character of the Doctors was cyclical after every 5 incarnations. I wonder if this costume merely continues this trend... ;)

Meh. I'm not impressed. It's kind of underwhelming. I'm not sure the lower half really belongs to the costume. It looks more like what Matt Smith is wearing normally. Oh well, let's see what it looks like on screen. I'm sure we'll get used to it.

Ooohhh, that bow tie can fuck right off!

It looks so bloody poncy!

Should have been a scarf!

Very old school Dr Who, I love it.

But at the end of the day I couldn't care less what he wears - just as long as that new assistant wears as little as possible please!

As a couple others have said, this is definitely making the Tenth/Eleventh switch seem like the Second/Third regeneration, but I suppose we shouldn't judge based on clothes.

I really don't know. Everytime I look at it, it's grown a little more on me. I think the only problem with it is, the whole fun about Doctor Who for me is all the running, the energy behind The Doctor and the program as a whole. I can't see someone running around in a boe tie and Doc Martin's to be a good step in the shows revival. If I'm honest, I would have much prefered the outfit he was wearing in his promo shoot, with an added scarf. Granted it was a little Ninth Doctor, but I would have liked it :).

But hey, I'm not a hater. And the series hasn't started. He's sat down in the picture so we still don't get a full look at him. Plus for all we know, that might not be the actual outfit. They're dubbing it as the "first look", not "his costume revealed".

On another note, I hope that the Eleventh Doctor doesn't bring around a whole new set of music for the series. I'm currently listening to the series three song "The Dream of a Normal Death", which I think was also used in the series finale of series four. It's an absolute masterpeice! It completely reflects the Doctor as we know him - all the friends in the world, but completely alone. Obviously it'll need new music, but the Doctor's themes over the last four series have been pretty close to each other, I'm hoping they don't completely change it to something else.

Is it just me, or does Karen look less hot in that picture than we've seen in recent weeks?

All he needs now are the leather patches over the elbows, and he'd be perfect!

SFX have a zoomable version up and he DOES have leather patches on the elbows.

I'm interested to see if they've provided him with some form of overcoat though. Tennant's costume could be either the just the suit or suit+coat and this would fit that motif as well... it certainly doesn't seem too practical if it's raining (not that the Doctor might mind, given he could wander around chatting in sub-zero temperatures without noticing that Donna's freezing to death).

He kind of has a 'college professor' look IMO. Sort of like Harrison Ford's Indiana Jones in the "Doctor Jones" persona

That was my exact thought :wtf:

A little underwhelming, and agree the outfit and the pace of the show don't add up quite right, but I'll see how it looks in action.

I just hoped for something a little more eccentric or a hint of 'Matt Smith' style. He looked far more interesting before that photo.

This isn't necesarilly his only outfit. Tennant of course had several variations on his suit (This might have been due to merchandising, of course. More outfits=more figure variants). Eccleston was kind of static, but he changed his shirt once in a while.

Not what I was expecting, but I like it well enough. I don't hate it at least. I actually found the hair more of a surprise. :) In any case, its the Doctors personality that counts.

So I'm guessing Stephen isn't a big fan of the gimicky outfits of the 70's and 80's.

Love it. Pure, simple, and fits The Doctor perfectly. I'm getting a real Troughton-vibe especially with this picture..

Also underwhelmed. Yes, there's a Troughton flavour to it (and ya gotta love those floods) but I was hoping for more a bohemian look.

But you know what worries me most? This is the first actor in the role younger than me. I'm getting old.

He's even wearing suspenders (that's what they're called, right?)! :)
Judging from the ice picture, the costume does make more sense, I guess.
