Costume Revealed - BBC Breakfast 8:45 Tomorrow!

Looking at those pics, it took me a while to warm to the changes, especially the new TARDIS, but I just had a thought. It looks like Moffat is going for the retro look, with the early looking TARDIS and the 2nd doctor like outfit, I think we might be about to get a lovely change of pace. The early episodes with the early doctors had a very specific look that really worked. It was good design on a bad budget, and it gave the show it's character. What we've loved and enjoyed these past few years is all of that, rebranded and revamped for the 21st century. And that's great, but we'll never be able to watch those early episodes in HD detail, and that would have wonderful to see.

By giving the design ethic a reboot, we get to see a version of that. They get to recapture the spirit of the original show in style, and I wouldn't be surprised if Moffat was going to give the character of the Doctor a retro reboot as well. Considering Moffat's love for the dark and scary, could he use whatever RTD has in store for Ten's departure seriously wound's the Doctor's spirit, and he regenerates into a fresh, youthful body, but inside is still a wounded and tired man who has just be beaten.

I'm intrigued by the pose Matt is standing in, in the photo of him standing beside the TARDIS, with his hands against his torso, fingers interlocked, head down, it strikes me as someone who's quite manic and stressed.

I think I'd enjoy quite a disturbed, dark Doctor who occasionally talked to people who weren't there. Maybe River is there, but we don't know if anyone other than the Doctor can see her.

I would not object at all if the Eleventh Doctor was like this.

Seconded. It'd be an interesting twist. And it would even fit the costume.

I just threw in that theory about River only being seen by the Doctor, but it's led to another 100% pure speculation theory. If we do get this darker Doctor, what if he's haunted throughout the series by figures from his past? They could get very inventive with that.

need i say more?

^^ I got to admit the look evokes more Orville Redenbacher than "Doctor" to me. Like he'd be on those Sunday Morning news shows or asking Gromit for some cheese. I don't know that costume will grow on me but I don't think it'd ruin the show or anything.

Yeah its pretty plain and for it being in HD, they should of done better, but i probably wont notice it much as i watched most of 10's run and not once noticed his dam shoes or his weird outfits.

Still wish they just have Jeans on him.

Though in my mind he should be wearing sweatpants and a hoodie?

A bit understated, but I do like that shot with him standing off to the left of the Tardis, apparently lost in some Timelordish thought. In other shots, Mr. Smith looks so young I'm almost reminded of cringing through teenage fan films with some actor who hasn't even had to shave once in his life playing the lead.

The outfit screams of a man out of sync with time; like an old man who still dresses in the fashion of his youth. I like that look, but any whimsy is so understated (there's that word again!) that I'm missing it. I like a bit of whimsy on my Doctors. Tennis shoes with a suit, an improbably long scarf, a stalk of celery ... this man appears thoroughly practical. The Doctor doesn't quite look in place in any era, but this man would blend right into the nineteen forties.

I think it's a great look. Evocative of Doctors who have gone before him but still a new look overall. I'm glad they kept his hair the way he usually wears it. Really looking forward to seeing him.

Maybe the look will evolve as the series goes on, as Tennant's did to an extent.

Doc Martens, rolled up trousers, braces. All we need is a white shirt, bomber jacket and a skinhead. Paint the TARDIS in black and white checks and hey presto! Putting the Ska into Skaro.

Having slept on it, I've decided I love the new costume. I love the call back to The Second Doctor who is my favorite Doctor. Plus, Amy Pond reminds me of Zoe. :D

I don't know where I stand, partly due to the fact Tennant is *my* Doctor. But I can buy this look coupled with an appropriate personality (I'm thinking slightly unbalanced yet brilliant beyond all compare).

I dont really mind it to tell the truth. Doesnt bother me.

However, thinking about it, Moffat could be doing a story revolving around Eleven stumbling on Twos Tardis somewhere, maybe.

Its a cool look, and the fact River Song is there to hopefully, well i doubt with Moffat, cap of the whole Song/Doctor thing. Its a nice touch to a classic look.

I suppose really that everyone was expecting something modern, like Tennants get up, but i dunno, something about the outfit doesnt suit Smith in the way Tennants suit and trenchcoat did him, maybe its not his outfit or something. I'd be curious to find out if that is the case.

I wouldn't have called Tennant's look 'modern' except for maybe the trainers.

Thats kinda what i was trying to say, but as always, i cant put stuff like that into words without waffling on for pages and pages.

It was also modern in a sense that the style was coming back into fashion aswel, well, suit and trainers at least.

I dunno, something along those lines anyway.

Woah. Benefit of Doubt and all that, but I sure do hope they know what they're doing. All looks abit Drama School Production to me so far.
