Costume Revealed - BBC Breakfast 8:45 Tomorrow!

^ Yeah, something like that. She was about to go out as is and he basically told her it would be a bad idea, then gave her those outrageous directions to the wardrobe. :D

First left, second right, third on the left, go straight ahead, under the stairs, past the bins, fifth door on your left.

According to Google...

^ And based on those directions, we know that the TARDIS is still humongous beyond the console room, even though we've seen very little else of it on screen.

Maybe we'll go beyond the console room during Smith's tenure...

^ I hope so!

As for his new costume, well, it could have been much much worse (*cough* sixth Doctor *cough*). If he loses the bow tie he won't look so much like Bill Nye the Science Guy. Tennant's Doctor didn't wear a tie a lot of the time, even though he started out with one. Maybe it'll get sucked into the vortex or shot off by a Dalek or something. :)

Doctor Who fans can be as bad as any group of fans, when it comes to reacting to things like a new outfit or a new companion, but really nothing has has happened that has deserves all the reaction it gets.

Now the 6th Doctors outfit, it is hard to see how any fandom could over reacted to that. Looking back I just do not understand how anyone thought it was a good idea.

im left wondering how the web would have reacted to the Sixth Doctors outfit, it if had been around.

The internet was certainly around in 1984.

Not even a shadow of what it has become, of course, but BBS groups (the ancestors of modern message board) have been around since the 70s, despite the common misconception that nobody had heard of computer networks until 1995...

Yes but much like Mitchell and Webb's gag about the BBC there were only 4 people on it...and 3 were in the same room

You'd be surprised. By 1985, America Online was already providing email and BBS services to thousands of people.

We tend to think of the internet as quite a recent happening but it's been used in one form or another, by regular people outside of military R&D labs, for almost 30 years. The World Wide Web as we know it came about in the 90s, but it already had some solid foundations.

In the grand scheme of things, and compared to how many people use the internet now, those numbers are incredibly tiny. There are probably more people signed up to this BBS alone than were using the whole internet back then *

Hey thanks, Jim! I knew there was a "network" during the 70's/80's, but I didn't think that many people used it, as such. Especially not for fandom conversations. I also didn't realize that it was archived on the Net. I'm TOTALLY going to check out those original posts! I already see one complaining about having to wait so long for the first Colin Baker season to start... :techman:

I like the rumor that Colin Baker's first serial was so bad that they were going to make his regeneration "unstable" and bring back Pertwee! :)
