Meanwhile, you have the Ninth and Tenth Doctor's clothes, which look just fine.
There's nothing inherent to the Doctor that requires him to not be fashionable.
8 to 3 against though.

But at the end of the day the Doctor isn't supposed to look fashionable.
Says who?
First Doctor's clothes.
Second Doctor's clothes.
(Third Doctor was sort of fashionable for the late 60's / early 70's)
Fourth Doctor's clothes.
Fifth Doctor's clothes
Sixth Doctor's clothes.
Seventh Doctor's clothes.
Eighth Doctor's clothes.
And every incarnation you list was as "fashionable" for the times as Eccles or Ten, save perhaps Five and Six (and even that's debatable). I fail to see your reasoning...
Edwardian clothes were fashionable in 1963?
They were worn by tramps, yes? And yes, Troughton was "trendy" as well, since he had a Beatles haircut. That wasn't by accident.Tramps outfits in 1966?
As in my quote, these two are debatable. However, RTD himself has said Colin's is the epitome of the 1980's, so take that for what you will.Cricket outfits in 1982?
Abominations from hell in 1985?
Is that the only piece of clothing he wore? Really? You do know McCoy owned the hat, and actually wore it around in real life all the time, like many people who enjoy wearing similar hats. That's why it was part of his ensemble.Question mark jumpers in 1987?
I can tell you're British if you think McGann's was a "cowboy" outfit.Cowboy outfits in 1996?

Fashionable? Sure. Just as they are right now. Trendy? Nope. And trendy is what you are talking about when it comes to Ten's "cool" look, not fashionable.

Understand, at no point do I think you had a lot of people walking around in broad daylight dressed anything like The Doctor. But, that's just as true today. I don't see anyone walking around dressed like Eccles or Tennant. Do people wear leather jackets and Chuck Taylors? Sure. But, then again, people also had Beatles haircuts, scarfs, velvet smoking jackets, and some pretty ugly fucking 1980 coats or "punk" fashion.
The argument here isn't whether The Doctor is fashionable, which he is each and every time. He's fashionable for the time in which The Doctor is presented. But, is he always trendy? No. Only bits and pieces of him can honestly be said to succumb to the zeitgeist of whichever particular era the incarnation was on TV.
Thus, you have the very fashionable, and not very trendy, retro-geek of the 11th Doctor...![]()
Well there is the kid from "A Fix with Sontarans".![]()
I must have missed the U-Boat Commander/navvy phase of modern fashion![]()
To be fair there's a guy in Nottingham who dresses like Tennant...it's quite excrutiating because it's so obviously the exact look (brown striped suit and the coat, even the hair) I've yet to see anyone dressed like Colin Baker though![]()
It was like that time in "The Unquiet Dead" when he made Rose dress into a period frock, while he was perfectly fine going out in his regular outfit (changing his jumper of course!).At the end of the day the Doctor's look should look slightly out of place no matter where he goes, yet also stragely fit in almost anywhere.

Did he make her or did she do it of her own accord? I can't remember how exactly the scene was played. It was like that time in "The Unquiet Dead" when he made Rose dress into a period frock
It should be noted that McCoy didn't wear the question mark outfit in the TV movie, and also several novel covers (and descriptions) depicted him in an all-white suit with tie.
Plus there's the Colin audio covers/animations with the blue outfit.
