News Coronavirus Pandemic Information and Support Group

I'd be curious to hear if you end up getting side-effects tomorrow like I did, ie chills and a fever.

My first one (Pfizer) didn't really have anything. My second one (Moderna) left me tired and energyless the next day, with a small bit of overall achiness, in addition to injection site pain. With this one (also Moderna), I've been tired today, but it seems to be more "standard" tiredness, rather than "body working through something" tiredness. (I ended up overindulging in the food department for NYE, so didn't end up sleeping that well due to stomach issues.) But the injection site is the most painful it has ever been out of the three of them, and the pain kind of goes down the arm towards the elbow, too.

I haven't had fever or chills with any of the three.

Oh, my bad. I thought I'd heard you say your two first ones were Pfizer. I guess if you already had Moderna, it would make sense that you have less side-effects this time around. For me, it definitely felt like my body was going through something.

After previously announcing a small delay in schools returning from the winter holiday, in order to prepare for in-person schooling during the current Omicron surge, the Ontario government today announced that when schools return later this week, it will be online only for at least the first two weeks.

Also effective Wednesday, indoor restaurant dining will be closed, as will gyms, museums, and other attractions. Retail locations will be capped at 50% capacity. Indoor gatherings will now be capped at a maximum of 5 people, down from the previous limit of 10. All non-urgent surgeries will be postponed. These measures will be in effect for at least three weeks.

Our daily case counts continue at record highs... and we aren't really even sure of the true number of cases, since limits had to be imposed on testing because the system didn't have the capacity to keep up with demand. Hospitalizations are expected to peak by the end of this month. Based on current projections, they also indicated that they expect to see 20 - 30% absenteeism across all sectors in the province over the next few weeks due to COVID infections.

Orange Co. CA daily cases have blown past our previous peak at the end of Dec 2020 with 6,259 daily cases, a 29.4% increase. Testing positivity rate is 16.2% (7-day average with 7-day lag). Hospitalizations are at 25.8% increase (3-day average). So far, ICU beds have 22.1% available and has remained pretty stable over the past several months.

Had a date scheduled for yesterday, she cancelled in the morning because she was feeling unwell. Shortly after got a message from a friend that their entire family tested positive for Covid. Almost immediately after that three more friends messaged that they were all sick. Everyone I know basically.

Woke up sick myself this morning. Like a bad head cold and lots of coughing when I move. No headache and no fever (although my thermometer isn't working right, according to it I have hypothermia).

Had to hire a random person on Facebook to pick up my PCR test from Shoppers tomorrow morning and then return it to them in the afternoon. Nobody I know left to do it for me, except for a single mom who is homeschooling so couldn't. Shoppers won't deliver and they don't allow delivery services to pick up or drop off, and they only allow a 20 min window for each. I was lucky when I posted on Facebook someone volunteered, even offered to do it for free but I sent them money anyway. Taking time out of their day twice tomorrow for a stranger, plus gas is like $1.35/L.

There is a cold going around right now along with Covid, so I'm hoping that's what I got. It's a 2 - 7 day turn around for test results so likely I'll be better before I even find out, but I'd like to know. I've had respiratory issues in the past along with Asthma that I take daily medication for so if this is Covid I want to be aware of it. I'm double vaxxed so I'm not worried (and also have the flu shot) but I'd still like to be aware of it.

Super tired but not asleep yet (insomnia vs Covid: FIGHT!!!!) hoping the codeine for the cough along with nighttime neocitron helps with that.

Just stopped in to wish everyone well, a very Happy New Year, and hope that you're all safe, happy, and healthy - or on the mend from a mild case - as we enter what I think is either the 5th or 6th wave of the pandemic...

I stopped keeping track, and does it really matter anyway ?

If we'd had a hard and fast lockdown when it really mattered this wouldn't be happening, and if the anti-mask, anti-social distancing, anti-science & medicine morons hadn't been so steadfast in their stupidity then life could have been back to mostly normal by now :brickwall:

Hope your test is negative, @wayoung - please let us know !

Agreed, and it's difficult because you also have lots that complain about the lockdown. So, it ends up feeling like there's a lot you can't do without angering some.

I have an Uncle down in Philly and he's also a Republican, and fortunately he's a little more tame than most, as he got vaccinated and boosted, but then claims the government is authoritarian. But is that really a valid statement when we're undergoing a worldwide pandemic? I honestly don't think so. Emergencies like these require extraordinary measures. That's honestly the most important bit people should understand, and it shouldn't need repeating. People forget that the world went through world wars where measures were taken, requiring people to give up much of what they took for granted, ie food rationing, limited freedom of movement, checkpoints of all sorts, and none of them were choices. We all require to give something up at certain points in life. I think this is one of those times. People just need to stop being so stubborn and do what they're told.

My sister lives in Beijing. She was evacuated with her kids to Canada Feb-Aug 2020 but since she went back to China she's had mostly a normal life, because whenever a covid case is detected China actually does lock down until the situation is resolved. She's had periods where for 3 weeks she was unable to open her door except for pre authorized grocery deliveries or the cops would be notified but other than those few occasions her life's been pretty much normal.

Some advantages to evil totalitarian regimes I suppose:shrug:

Edit:. Just realized I may have already posted this in this thread? If so, I apologize, I'm on codeine for my cough:lol:

Learned today that the social worker who visited my mother-in-law for a hospice agency yesterday, apparently sans mask, tested COVID positive today. At least two of three sisters-in-law have been vaccinated w/boosters but now have to wait several days to see if anyone develops symptoms. My wife was going to go over to relieve one of her sisters, is now staying home.

Fingers Crossed all ok for all of you..

I just don't get why people won't wear masks. We met some friends of ours just before the new year, they are the first to complain about restrictions but are the same ones who have had lockdown parties etc.

Went in a few shops, we wore masks, they didn't. They were refused entry to one but allowed in the others. I just don't get why they won't wear one.

They are jabbed up with boosters but in my head its disrespectful to those around you if you don't wear one.

That is so completely irresponsible and reprehensible. These are the people that should be charged for not taking precaution. Oh, they're healthy they'd say, but the key thing in all this is that it's not for them, but for everyone else around them.

My parents are anti-vaccine, anti-mask, QAnon loonies. Mom says she can't breathe with a mask on (I think she might have claustrophobia). Dad wore a mask when taking me to the doc the other day because he has a cold & didn't want to give it to me.
But COVID is all just a big conspiracy to them. I'm not sure which is worse - the worry that they'll get it (they're 74) or that they'll give it to others. :censored: :brickwall:
