So, appointment day for my Booster shot. Appointment was for 2:30. Roll up to the location which is a small community arena, and we immediately see something's not quite right. There's a long long line snaking its way around the parking lot. It was obvious just from looking that they couldn't handle the capacity. Mind you, it's -15C and snowing, and there was no way we'd be waiting in line in these temps.Asking the guards, we would have had to wait over 2 hours in line, so gonna have to rebook. Today apparently wasn't meant to be. :(

So sorry to hear that! :( Waiting two hours out in -15° weather is certainly not something I would want to do, either. Good luck with the rebooking, I hope you are able to get another time not too far away.

Here's an Update: Called the same number used to book an appointment to complain. They're a local call center, and so they were fully aware of what was going on, apologized and even gave some advice. Apparently when you get your appointment, well, for my regional district anyway, the appointment is good for the whole day, and they told us we could come back later. Gave it a second try at around 4:30. Sure enough, there was no more line, the weather had even improved, and there was no wait. So that may be a tip if you find yourself with a long line :)

I'm not sure if this applies to every health unit in the Province, but on the phone, they said that they were running out of Pfizer. My first two shots were both Pfizer, but it was explained as some part of research study, those who were given Pfizer would now be given Moderna. And it was further explained once I got there, that I would be receiving a half-dose. Those 70 and Over would receive full dose. Interesting.... Anyhow, I'm now fully boosted.

Look, Daddy. Teacher says, every time a bell rings an angel gets his booster shot! ;)

Yeah, my understanding is that Phfizer is being prioritised for under 30 in ON due to the shortage (didn't look up why they set it to that she group) and Moderna for everyone else. My first 2 shots were Moderna. Still no luck getting one here. Which is good, because my area is one of the biggest packs of anti vaxxers in the province, so at least people are getting the shot:shrug:

My first two shots were with the local health unit, and they booked a significant number of people for each timeslot, since they operated out of such a large facility and had a large staff in place. It was a pretty well-run operation. I was originally going to go with them again, but they had nothing available whenever I tried. In the scramble to get a booster as soon as possible, I ended up booking with a local Shoppers. They appear to only book a single person for a 10-minute timeslot, so hopefully they don't have too much opportunity to get that backed up.

One weird thing about booking with a pharmacy, is that you seem to have to book for either specifically Pfizer or Moderna, and it seems that different locations either do one or the other. (When I booked with the health unit for the first two, they told you when you sat down for the shot which one you were getting.) The pharmacy location I finally got in with was Pfizer. I don't know what that means if they run out before my scheduled appointment, but hopefully they only open slots for doses they know they have available, and it won't be an issue?

My first two shots were both Pfizer
My first 2 shots were Moderna.

My first two doses were one of each, so I don't really care which one I get for the third! :D

IIRC, they had said a while back that the risk of heart inflammation in young people was relatively higher with Moderna than with Pfizer, so I would guess that was probably the reason.

Still no luck getting one here.

Good luck, I hope you're able to find something soon!

Interestingly, I felt no reaction with my first two Pfizer doses, but my Moderna booster made me feel very tired the next day. Ended up going to bed early.

It's weird, my only symptom (Moderna all shots) has ever been injection site pain. Just stick it and forget it, but my booster injection site is still sore-ish with pressure applied after almost 60 days on. (11/6/21)

I think what's happening is, based on a theory a friend of mine suggested, the site is creating anti-bodies at such a breakneck speed the site is overheating!

really pleased the government in England have held firm and not put additional restrictions in place. its got to be tough making these decisions, hopefully they have it right

Ugghhh, just got "the call" from someone I hung out with for a few hours yesterday. Her parents tested positive yesterday and she was with them for Christmas. She has rapid tests but was told to wait until Friday in isolation before using them as it needs a few days after exposure. So now I'm in isolation until she gets her results. No symptoms for either of us but at this point it's been so early there wouldn't be.

So plan C for NYE may also be cancelled

Quebec currently has 7000 health care workers out right now due to COVID infections, and they expect that to rise to 10,000 by the end of the week. To try to forestall this looming health care crisis, they are planning to allow some COVID-positive health care workers to come back to work under certain circumstances.

Sorry to hear that. :( Good luck to both of you, I hope things go OK and you avoid infection.

Sorry to hear that, hope all is ok with everyone.

Got my booster shot today! Pretty nice way to close out the year! :D

I mentioned upthread that when I was signing up with the pharmacy, I had to sign up for either a Pfizer or Moderna booster, and I went with Pfizer because it had earlier appointments available. When I got there, they told me they actually had both in stock. They said it was my choice which one I ended up getting, but they were trying to prioritize the remaining Pfizer doses for people under 25. So I did end up switching to Moderna instead. I had already received two different types for my first two doses, so it really didn't matter to me which one I got for my third, as long as I got one! :D

Yeah, it was kind of like what they had told me regarding prioritization. I'd be curious to hear if you end up getting side-effects tomorrow like I did, ie chills and a fever.
