Continuing to Discover Doctor Who

I don't know if Tegan's getting left behind in "Time-Flight" was supposed to make us think it was permanent, or if it was supposed to be permanent (ie. maybe in RL there were contract negotiations going on with the actress?). But she comes back in "Arc of Infinity" and stays until the episode you reference.

She was always going to come back. I think it was an attempt to end the series on a cliffhanger - will Tegan find the Doctor again?

I believe it was done following the success of the end of season cliffhangers Blake's 7 had been pulling off.

Check out The Sea Devils. Pertwee vs Delgado swordfight.
Except that was fencing. ;)
So was the fight in ..Tara but it's still swordfighting..
Really? I could have sworn they used swords. I guess it's been too long since I've seen The Androids of Tara.

That being said, I didn't know fencing can be also called swordfigthing. Seems like that would be one of those things people would get snobbish over.

Yep, they were fencing Grendel even offers to give the Doctor a fencing lesson. :techman:

The Androids Of Tara also has Jabba The Hutt in it.

Fencing is a type of swordfighting, and all three fencing weapons (foil, sabre, and my personal choice, epee) are types of swords.

A Brief History of Time (Travel) claims that "Grimwade was also asked to make it seem that Tegan was being written out of the series at the end of episode four. This would act as both a tease to keep viewers' interest during the long break between seasons (now nine months due to the switch of Doctor Who to twice-weekly broadcasts) and a safety mechanism in case Nathan-Turner and incoming script editor Eric Saward decided the character wasn't working. (Ultimately, it would be agreed in September that Tegan would return for Season Twenty, months before this scene was actually recorded.)"

Speaking of Time-Flight, I've just started watching it (straight after the brilliant Earthshock). Only one episode in at the moment...

...but good grief they got over Adric quick didn't they?!

Who? But seriously the Doctor was something of a rollling stone back in those day they didn't obsess about things like that from a previous story that much they just moved on to the next one.

Keep watching!

Though you might not enjoy it...

Just finished.

Time-Flight deserves every single bit of hatred it gets. What an incomprehensible mess. And it even had fucking technobabble as a form of exposition. And the ending was even worse than I was expecting. And the Adric thing was shit. And the Master was a total joke (did he just ENJOY dressing up or something? Cos there's sure as hell no reason given as to why he's dressed as an Arabian monk thing). And was Nyssa ever psychic before or after? I doubt it somehow.

Time-Flight has an honour bestowed previously to only The Idiot's Lantern and Fear Her - I will never watch it again cos it was CRAP.

Time-Flight was a victim of a low budget but I didn't think the story itself was all that bad, but you could tell that they spent too much money on Earthshock.

I use to defend Time-Flight because I somewhat liked the basic plot, but then I saw The Second Doctor's The Faceless Ones and I love it. That serial was the same idea, but much better executed.

More or less. I think every new comment I've seen points that out.

Not in the series, but the second and fourth Fifth Doctor/Nyssa audios (Winter for the Adept and Primeval) do deal with it.

I'm not sure that that's fair to The Idiot's Lantern.

And I can't wait to see your reactions to Arc of Infinity. I think the latter is far, far worse, though I'm sorta alone in that assessment.
