I'm an old-school European leftie(proudly).
Hearing Americans (and I seriously mean no personal offence) talking about Hollywood "leaning left" is hilarious.![]()
Highly doubt there'll be anything more ghostly than a standard TOS non-coproreal entitity, and even those have been few and far between in the past 40 years.Might even get a ghost story or a vampire story in the future.
Does Krall count as a vampire?Might even get a ghost story or a vampire story in the future.
To be fair, you could definitely say he's vampiric...Does Krall count as a vampire?
A remarkably perceptive post. This is generally what I meant about "probabilites". The gadget affected probability. As for the alien's ability to sense death I wonder if it works anything like that device on the "DS9" ep "RIvals" were it could give you good or bad luck. Not sure how something like that could ever exist even in a universe like Trek.
It's also possible that this reboot will be more open to mystical stuff like this. Might even get a ghost story or a vampire story in the future.

His people have a high midi-chlorian countThe problem is not so much sensing death but it's coming. Precognition maybe?
Maybe life impinges on the space-time fabric like gravity, and Saru's people can sense that change in 'pressure' on that fabric in advance?
"As if millions of Vulcans cried out in terror, and then were suddenly silenced."You mean Spock's Vulcan sense from "The Immunity Syndrome"?
They're all someone's child. In America many are considered radicals. Lol
They stole my idea...I mean...never mind. The problem is not so much sensing death but it's coming. Precognition maybe?

I have been informed on facebook that the largest facebook group on fb voted on the trailer and only 4% disliked it. I asked for some stats as I'm not part of that group.Various "likes" and polls. Last time I looked the cbs video was literally 40 to 1 positive. Even the usual target for unhappiness-the official YouTube video--was beyond double ratio in likes: 18k to 8k.
Edit: just checked: cbs video: 46.5k likes/loves to 400 dislikes/hates. Overwhelmingly positive. The two main videos: 64.5k to 8.5k. Huge.
The trailer has over 5. 6 million views between the two main sources.
We've had loads of ghost stories in Trek, from TNG: "Sub Rosa" to VOY: "The Haunting of Deck 15" and ENT: "Daedalus"It's also possible that this reboot will be more open to mystical stuff like this. Might even get a ghost story or a vampire story in the future.
What else is new?The YouTube comments were more than a little despairing
The difference is Trek usually likes to give some science or real world explanation for things that are supernatural. I wonder what it would be like if they just did a ghost story and had it be a real dead human being. I wouldn't even mind if they made God or Demons into a real thing. I liked "Barge of the Dead" in part because I like to think Torres was experiencing more than a bad dream. We've had loads of ghost stories in Trek, from TNG: "Sub Rosa" to VOY: "The Haunting of Deck 15" and ENT: "Daedalus"
As for Vampires, Krall (although his was all alien suit tech) and TNG: "Man of the People"
I'd be open to more whacky stuff like that in Trek, but hopefully executed a bit better.
I would love that. He knows his Trek. I have seen him on 2 things. Movie Fights from "Screen Junkies" and a Trek discussion between him,Brannon Braga,Mark Altman and Roddenberry's son about the future of Trek and what it should be.Scott MantzVerified account @MovieMantz

Supernatural just means "not yet explainable". Trek could easily feature a disembodied dead Human. The difference is Trek usually likes to give some science or real world explanation for things that are supernatural. Just another transporter accident.Supernatural just means "not yet explainable". Trek could easily feature a disembodied dead Human.
