Then he'd need to have the power to sense how many security extras they have budgeted for. Worf was good at that. Super soldier loose on the ship? Send two guys!

Her "delivery" is clearly the product of her dialogue being sliced up and stitched back together for the trailer.
No. There's editing between the lines of dialog of course, but the lines themselves are her actual dubs, and they're terrible. Hopefully much of what we see in trailer isn't in the show. SMG also comes off bad in this.

I got to admit I do worry about SMG's acting more than Yeoh's because Yeoh has more of a proving background. I always felt SMG was okay on "Walking Dead" but nothing special so I do have doubts about having her as a series lead.
If her character isn't even considered the most intresting on the show I think it would hurt because I think that was one of the reason's "DS9" wasn't a huge hit. Sisko didn't really takeoff as a character until much later and even then I bet people could list 4 or 5 characters on the show they liked better.
To me the captain,or in this case the clear lead, has to be more than just good but has to be great for a Trek series to become popular with a mainstream audience. Shatner and Stewart were special and the other captain's were just good and it hurt those shows IMO.

I share your concerns. I also think SMG looks too young for this role. She just doesn't look convincing as a captain/commander. Yeoh at least looks the part.

Personally I think Avery Brooks as Sisko was just as good as Kirk and Picard. All three were great but different.

Outside of TrekBBS, the majority of the comments/reaction I'm seeing around the web is negative.
If this is the case I wonder if their is any specific concerns that are most of the negative complaints.
I mean you got the Klingons which is oviously going create some negative feelings and you got those who hated the Kelvin Universe movies and then you got what I hope is a small minority is just bigots or or people who dislike women.
Also I wonder if things that are considered negative or in reality not. Even here their seems to be some who think that those who see the new show as a reboot is being negative because I asume they see the word "Reboot" as a bad word so if you think that it means your actually trying to insult the show.

@Jayson1 - All the negativity I've seen so far can be broken down into:
  • - People being wary about the New Klingons (potentially a misunderstanding)
  • - People being wary about the Kelvinverse visuals/colour saturation/lens flare
  • - People being wary about the acting/dialogue being less literary than say GoT
All of which are open to interpretation, may be misrepresentative due to the trailer being cut together for SUPER DRAMA and having no context. We don't know if the Klingons are final, how they would look if they were final, and whether or not they could subtly change over time as Worf's makeup did:

The visuals of the show are unclear from those scenes. One trailer has far less colour saturation than the others for example. The show may move away from Kelvin type visuals over it's course, as early seasons of TNG moved away from Motion Picture era props. Finally, the trailer is edited together from many cuts, taken out of context. Some of Michelle Yeoh's dialogue to me sounded almost as if they had cut together two parts of dialogue from close scenes to form a readily understood concept for a sound byte. The scenes of SMG's character looking melodramatically at Saru(?) are all cut into the trailer while Saru is talking off screen, making me think she is reacting to something completely different, and they cut it in for MAXIMUM DRAMA lol.

Conclusion:

We still basically know as little as before the trailer about how good the show will be.

Thing is, TV has come a long way since DS9. People won't wait a season or more, it has to work right out of the gate. Shatner and Nimoy managed it in 1966, so these guys can as well.

This. All entertainment is produced differently now. Music, film, video games, all are expected to be pretty much workable "right out of the gate." Music creators need to already have their marketing down pat before management will even look at them.

Almost certainly, and I'd wager early on in the pilot too.

I'd wager early on in filming the pilot.

I was glad they finally cast a blue person in this series. Us blue people have been shunned from TV for years. Finally we are getting our moment to shine.

Agreed. Mental illness represent! /s

McCoy's line at 0:54 was never in the film, it was edited together from other lines not from that scene just to make it more dramatic.
