We'll just have to agree to disagree, because I do think you can tell if acting is bad in trailer, and it was bad.

The stuff you see in the trailer usually (not always) is in the final cut.

The dialog we're hearing in the the trailer has already been dubbed.

It's not about opinion, but fact. Take it from someone who went to theaterschool. Acting is about context. I've seen shots from trailers that promised great acting, but were horrible in the actual movie, and vice-versa. So no, you really can't judge acting from two lines out of context. Some internetheroes THINK they can, but that's why awards are given to movies, not trailers.

As for the actual trailer.... I'm excited AF!!! Can't wait to see what this will be like for real.

I hope that if an Asian-born person is a cast member, I'm not going to completely cringe when they speak the name "Shenzhou" onscreen.

Non Asian writers no longer allowed to write scripts for Asian actors that include references to the Asian culture or heritage, all thanks to left wingers screaming "cultural appropriation".

I also cringe whenever Americans pronounce Italian words. Not because it's cultural appropriation but because it sounds really awful to my ears. I mean, shit, can't even get "pizza" right.

No it's not. The look is just part of it. You're giving the audience a sense and feel for the show, which includes the characters.

If it was just about the look. All they need to do is release pictures.

Bad acting shines through even in a trailer.

You cannot in any way, shape or form get a "sense and feel" for characters (or the actors portraying them) from a collection of audio and video clips that are are out of sequence and out of context.

That is not what a teaser trailer is meant for - that isn't even what a "full" trailer is for.

It is incredibly unreasonable to expect such a thing from this small video.. It is the very definition of wanting any excuse to complain and moan.

But aren't they going for an ongoing narrative arc rather than episodic season? And given they were in the trailer, wheras Discover/Jason Issacs weren't, I'd say they're gonna feature a fair bit.

Me too, it seems tighter. It feels like the CBS trailer was trying to delve too much into the story, even though it knew it couldn't because spoilers. Whereas the Netflix trailer is purely about the visuals/tone, etc.

It's what I'd do if I had to say a word in a language I don't speak: ask someone who does how it's pronounced. As a linguist, I always get annoyed when actors consistently say something the wrong way. It's mostly just lazy. You can learn to pronounce almost everything (mostly) the right way, but it's a lot of work.

No, and it is an unreasonable claim to say acting can be judged in anything but the final product.

And what you see in a trailer is not "usually in the final cut". Quite the oppose. Many trailers contain footage and dialogue that is not in the finished film and special effects in trailers is NEVER the final, completed VFX. To the untrained eye of the audience it might look it, but it isn't. This is a fact in movie and television projects.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm kinda just glad to have a Trek crew in space acting like adults again. I like JJ Trek and all, but it's almost like all they do is run, shoot and tell jokes. It's like everyone's a gotdamn child.

It's not hard to see the acting and delivery is stiff. It's not like there's zero context there.

Also, I've seen plenty of Sonequa Martin. She's a mediocre actress at best, and in this trailer she's bad. She also looks too young.
