Collider: "After talking to Bryan Fuller tonight about Star Trek I'm so so so angry at CBS..."

In my completely speculative and uneducated opinion, I think maybe CBS originally told Fuller that he'd be able to do whatever he wanted in regards to social commentary, but at some point CBS rescinded that and then said they wanted something a little more 'safe' and action-driven. American Gods, on the other hand, allows Fuller to do whatever he wants, so he decided to just focus on American Gods. Again, completely speculative and uneducated, but just my three cents.

It seems to me that Fuller especially had eyes bigger than stomach and CBS executives, seeing that he was unable to handle the situation - and yet it is not for lack of understanding from their part to the point of accepting his demands, invited him to leave his seat. It's a fair situation! Now, he cries to the media to complain about the treatment that has been reserved but, he participated actively to this situation in taking his job with Discovery a little over leg.

In any case, the genesis of Discovery has been laborious (change of people, shooting successively postponed and all, that in just a few months; a casting is still ongoing), whereas initially, it had to be an event.
In short, it is puzzling me!

Has there ever been a TV/movie in the history of ever where the departure of a show runner for "scheduling conflicts" or "creative differences" or what have you hasn't been code for "something really ugly went down behind the scenes?"

I'm just assuming it's the case here regardless of what anybody says.

Yeah, this is just vaguetweeting.

Could we start by being more specific about "CBS?" I mean, "I'm mad at CBS..." The show is being produced by Kurtzman's Secret Hideout production company. They brought Fuller in. Are they "CBS" or is this guy pretending that the production company has no role here?

We've got an allegation that lacks any meaningful who, what or why. But damn does it make this guy sound like an insider...to someone or another.

"Frosty", even as editor in chief, has always come across as a bit of a fool. Under his tenureship many of the sites "News" bullitens are in fact closer to click-bait op-ed's designed to "generate discussion" i.e. rile the readership. He also has generally terrible taste in media.

It is of no surprise to see a half-baked thoughtless Bait-tweet spew forth from his account, to then find it evaporate into the ether.

The loss of Fuller I fear will be felt by this show. A great showrunner doesnt just pick great casts, or develop great stories, but adds unique texture and depth to the world they are creating. One can fire pot shots across the Fuller-bow with daft notions of "Well, he hasn't run a show that lasted more than 2 seasons", but each of those shows is full of depth, with unique outlooks, rich world building and all of those little hallmarks that show the creator really is invested in the product.

I would love to see a full-on, unbridled Fuller take on Trek and there is the possibility he has left the bare bones of such for the new showrunners to play with. Will they bring the detail, the texture, the uniqueness of Fuller's world? Who knows. He has handed over to people who have played in his worlds before. But should they be beholden to that now, or strike out on their own with their style. Are we going to get a half 'n half show? I hope not

But at least there is American Gods where STARZ are likely to be far more hands off and allow Fuller/Green full reign of their imagination.

Hugo - prefers to see a wholehearted failure over a half-baked success

CBS brought him in, he said this in an interview already.

There's a bunch of different production companies working on the show, Secret Hideout isn't the only one.
