It was reviewed and the call upheld. The rules say a tie goes to the receiver and felt Williams should have been down by contact with possession when they hit the ground. Call didn't go that way. Alabama failed to capitalize on so many other chances there's no way one can point to that call and say it cost them the game. If anything, the decision to run a gimmick play and not to go back to Richardson after he'd just run for 24 yards was the bigger problem. Sure, if it works, everybody says, "Great call", but after both interceptions, McElwain and Saban chose to go for the long ball and the kill rather than just run the offense. Neither play worked and we ended up off schedule with 2-and-long then 3-and-long. That limited the play-calling options and ultimately lead to the long field goal attempts. I don't disagree with the strategy some have suggested of punting and letting the defense try to shift field position either.
LSU's a championship-caliber team. They don't need anybody else's help.
