College Football 2011 Discussion

Boise would only be joining it for football purposes, and being in the Big East will -for the time being - means Boise St is in a conference that is guaranteed a BCS game for its champion. But then the Big East has been in decline as far as success in football is concerned. It would be interesting to see their schedule and add up the travel costs.

Personally I think it's great and I hope adding these schools (and having BCS success) gets the Big East to keep their automatic berth. Anything that makes the stuffy old men in the power conferences whine and gets more schools in the mix for a national championship is good by me.

Also, the Big East may've lost its last 3 BCS Bowls, but the ACC has lost 2 out of the last 3, and has a much worse BCS record overall (2-11 to the Big East's 6-7).

We are very likely moving towards 4 16-team super conferences, which means a brand new BCS or even an NCAA super-division of only 64 teams. Shoot, the schools may even decide to break away from the NCAA and govern themselves under a new body (one that pays the players).

It will be like the basketball tournament, except its the same 64 teams every year.

Nice win by the Trojans tonight.

Of course, Colorado isn't much competition, but still....

I'm taking my daughter to her first USC game next Saturday against Washington. We'll be there with about 20 family and friends. I'm really looking forward to it, especially since she is thinking seriously about the Univeristy of Washington for her undergraduate work.

Washington will not be pushovers.

Fight on!

Georgia scored 49 on New Mexico State in the first half and took all the starters out... I was hoping for 100 points. Oh well.

Congrats to Mick and any other LSU fans around. Hard fought game and the Bayou Bengals made more plays than the Tide. Do that and you deserve to win. Enjoy.

If you didn't love that LSU/Alabama game, you're dead inside.

That was some serious defense, Old School.

Alabama loses at home, in overtime, 9-6. In a game where they missed 4 field goals.

You just gotta love college football.

Oh, did Alabama and LSU play?? I was too busy suffering heart failure watching Oklahoma State survive a horrendous performance and self inflicted mistakes to be taken down--literally--to the very last second on the clock by K-State, who failed to get into the end zone for once. OK State committed 4 turnovers and Justin Blackmon decided he was going to fumble through the end zone--AGAIN :censored: --as he was diving in for a touchdown that would have put O-State up by 10 and given some breathing room. Douche. Apparently they had a second earthquake in OKC during the post game. It may have been a 5.0 according to some folks on the radio. I had to go out of town for a business meeting. 2 earthquakes in OKC and I miss them both. The one in the middle of night last night was a 4.7.

Earthquake Saturday in Oklahoma.....good omens?????? :D

They definitely felt the quake in Stillwater. I didn't watch post game on TV because I was listening to the radio, but there's already a clip on youtube of Kirk Herbstreit's eyes suddenly getting big during a post game commentary. :guffaw: I just saw it. LOL! The USGS is reporting it as a 5.2. Damn....I hope the Madrid fault isn't getting ready to go off.

Earthquakes in Stillwater. Omens, my friend. You have to admit, that's pretty freaky. Here's the clip. Herbstreit keeps his cool, but all of a sudden at the beginning you see his eyes get real big.

Earthquake in Stillwater

EDIT: Just updated to a 5.6 by the USGS. Officially the strongest quake in state history now. El Reno had a 5.5 back in 1952. The Prague library had a wall collapse, some homes there have had their chimneys collapse, and state highway 62 has buckled near Prague. Bizarro world. :wtf:

I feel sorry for Alabama's kicker. I don't understand why Alabama, after stopping LSU all night long anyway, insisted on kicking such a long field goal instead of making a good punt and trying again the next play. It's not like he missed an extra point or so.

Yeah, there were a couple of times where fieldgoals were clearly not the best idea. Alabama certainly shot themselves in the foot, but I think they were clearly the best two teams that played each other last night.

BTW, I was watching at a bar, so I couldn't hear the announcers. That one pass towards the end that they ruled an interception. Anyone know why they didn't review it?

It was reviewed and the call upheld. The rules say a tie goes to the receiver and felt Williams should have been down by contact with possession when they hit the ground. Call didn't go that way. Alabama failed to capitalize on so many other chances there's no way one can point to that call and say it cost them the game. If anything, the decision to run a gimmick play and not to go back to Richardson after he'd just run for 24 yards was the bigger problem. Sure, if it works, everybody says, "Great call", but after both interceptions, McElwain and Saban chose to go for the long ball and the kill rather than just run the offense. Neither play worked and we ended up off schedule with 2-and-long then 3-and-long. That limited the play-calling options and ultimately lead to the long field goal attempts. I don't disagree with the strategy some have suggested of punting and letting the defense try to shift field position either.

LSU's a championship-caliber team. They don't need anybody else's help.

That game was absolutely dreadful. Score a TD or two folks.

I felt the same way. How the hell does Alabama go 2-6 on field goals and you call this a great game? Sounded like a boring snorefest. With the parts of the game I did see, the USC/Stanford game a week before was much better.

Okay, well...to each his/her own. I watched the whole thing, and thought it was great. There's nothing wrong with a defensive game, IMHO.

If Paterno is still coaching next year, I'll eat my toaster. Dear God....

Charges against Sandusky

One of the boys was 10 at the time. I think he was the one the grad assistant saw in the shower with Sandusky. Curley and Schultz are expected to turn themselves in on Monday in Harrisburg. They knew. The grad assistant told them. They still allowed Sandusky to bring the "troubled boys" he worked with through his Second Mile foundation on to campus after he retired in '99. Paterno knew. He didn't contact police either, all required by Pennsylvania law, of course. Yet it's only the athletic director and finance director in trouble. Amazing. :cardie:

That grad student is an idiot too. If you see a 10-year-old boy getting raped by an old man, how can you not go in there right now and punch the asshole in the balls?
