Chris Pine as Green Lantern? Yes!

Yeesh, we haven't even seen the guy in his first gig so we can bitch about how much he sucks! :rommie:

Hey let's make him the next Batman, too. And John Connor. And Indiana Jones. He can also be Ellen Ripley in drag (and would be prettier than Sigourney Weaver). :p

I didn't realize he was in Smokin' Aces. That goes to the top of the ole Netflix list asap...Jeremy Piven, too? Frak, how'd I miss that one?

Seems a little unimaginative. The captain in one big space franchise becomes the lead - also a spaceman - in another? I mean, they could probably do worse, but I can't help thinking that it would be a little like casting Christian Bale as Batman and also as James Bond.

I read somewhere else today (might have been Dark Horizons) that they 'hadn't cast a soul' for GL. Of course, that doesn't mean they don't have a wishlist or that Pine isn't on it.

Or as John Connor.

Oops...

Anyway, at a guess the industry buzz on his performance in Trek is positive and since he's still a new face he can probably be had for a lot less money than a "name" actor. He's just about thirty, which bodes well for sequels as well.

What Coming Attractions has to say about the situation, specifically, is:

A deep cover source contacted us mere moments ago to say that Warner Bros. has made an offer to Chris Pine to play Green Lantern.

I thought this would be a good idea weeks ago...

yeah Smokin Aces is pretty much Reservoir Dogs and/or a lot of other Crime Dramas, but on crack!

It's a fun little violent romp. and bonerific too, you'll know what I'm talking about when you see it.

"Your father was a Green Lantern for 12 minutes. He saved 800 Guardians of the Universe. I dare you to do better."

"In brightest day, in blackest space, the final frontier,
No evil shall escape my five-year mission:
To seek out new life and all who worship evil's might;
To boldly go where no Green Lantern's light has gone before!"

(You know, that's surprisingly coherent...) :D

At this point, all I can think is that this makes Star Trek look good. If it's young leading man is already on tap for another summer popcorn franchise, people in the know must think highly of the new Trek film (or at least its box office potential.)

Does Pine get butt nekked and dance the hootchie cootchie? :rommie: Fine by me. I'm watching it solely to assess his talent, after all. (Just read thru some reviews - wow, it got slammed! That must be how I manage to miss it.)
ya better than Jack Black, riiiiiiiight guys?
Well I'm certainly relieved and I'm not even a Green Lantern fan. (Sounds cool, tho.)

It's interesting...didn't ShoWest this year dub Pine its "Male Star Of Tomorrow?" The proof is - or isn't - in the performance in the finished film, of course, but the hype machine is certainly grinding confidently away on his behalf.

Pine would seem to be a good fit for Hal Jordan based on what I've seen of him.

And Bishop, thanks for the Superman update--hope it pans out. Maybe we'll eventually see Routh and Pine teamed up.
