Characters in DS9-R (& Millenium)

Danoz has a point if you're only on season 4- wait til you get to the end, and when you read ToF, it'll make more sense...


Over all, when it comes to regular characters, we only have... what? 3 or 4 spaces needed that are filled by "new" guys that are well described?

And DS9 always had people crop up for a few episodes who then went off...

Even if we don't see all the series characters all the time in the books, we didn't in the series either.

No, it just means that it's referenced by the post-finale books. Strictly speaking, the "Relaunch" was Marco Palmieri's marketing strategy for promoting the post-finale novels. The term wasn't meant to apply to the series as a whole or to the continuity it was a part of.

By being not "balanced", I was referring to the more recent novels, and how they seem to have more before TV series, after TV series, out of TV series novels, and very few, relatively speaking, during TV series, with the usual cast of characters. (This refers to all the ST TV series, not just DS9.) I don't mind the other, lit-only series, for those who like them; just more of the TV series-based novels as well, for those who prefer them.

That said, as I said a little earlier, most of the posts in this thread about the DS9-R series in general have made me more confident, and want to read the novel series after I finish watching the TV series. Individual titles might be a problem, but not the series as a whole.

One reason for the post was to help me answer the question "Should I start buying the books (especially the out-of-print copies) as they become available to me, or should I just forget about them?" The answer, it would seem, is to start collecting them now.
