Chakotay and Seven

I thought there was much that could have been made as groundwork between the characters. One of the best would have been the Omega Directive with Seven's search for perfection and her conversations with Chakotay. Really, a lot could have been done with Chakotay being precisely what a first officer is meant to do- get the crew working together- bridging Maquis and Starfleet and then Borg Humanity and himself in dealing with Seven opens realms of drama and conflict long before creating a relationship. Sadly, the writers didn't see that possibility.

Chakotay had shown no interest what so ever in Seven before "Endgame".

Even in season 7's "Imperfection", its Janeway that's risking herself to save Seven, and Chakotay who's willing to let her die rather than risk the ship/crew/Delta Flyer/Away team.

"Human Error" was Seven trying to recreate her feelings for Axum. Instead of creating Axum on the Holodeck, she created Chakotay, which did nothing except piss off the EMH. (Who was being {the EMH} quite inappropriate, I should add.)

"Natural Law" just proved to me that these two didn't belong together, but I suppose TPTB felt HE & NL were enough of a warning that we would accept C/7 in the finale and be happy.

^How about sleeping with random guys on passing planets? The "pond" is the freaking Delta Quadrant!

Every time Miral wanted to even Kiss some alien, she would have to hold him (her?) by the hand, and walk them down to sickbay and get them tested to find out if there's anything dangerously sexually incompatible or poisonous about her intended suitor to her biology.

EVERY TIME!

By the time an entire species is given a clean bill of health that the crew is notified about some for of horny frikking frakking open season that has put a green flag on the pitch, that civilization is 5 light years past in the rear view mirror.

Of course if the Beta Quadrant was between them and home, and that does mean Romulans, Klingons, Breen and a few other species they know before hand who are good or bad to shag.

Because Seven died still in the DQ, running the numbers, Chakotay was still a good match because he was the alpha, winning out over the perhaps 10 other unattached men on board that hadn't been paired off (was she willing to break up relationships if she decided that she was a better match than some existing relationship? "Tom Paris, our babies will be stronger and more intelligent.") but is Chakotay really still an Alpha if there's another 90 billion lads supplying IQ tests and dental records for her consideration?

I think if Seven had died as was the original plan, C/7 would have stayed a potential item and not something that actually happened.

Unless, perhaps, she was set to confess her love for him at the last second before she went off to die or something. Honestly, it makes some sense that Seven would have a one-sided thing for Chakotay since he was kind of cute. It was him having a thing back that never quite worked. He hated her.

And yes, if Natural Law was their big setup... man, that episode so failed. To date, it is only one of a bitty handful of VOY episodes I have not watched since the night it aired. In fact, I might have even turned it off that night out of boredom.

You mean the relationship they focussed on for almost two seasons?

I meant the relationship that spent the first season with Trip not trusting T'Pol as far as he could throw a grand piano, which was quite a productive line to pursue, BTW. This is possibly sacrilege (and off topic) but the chemistry between Chakotay and Seven was fine, given they had a day's notice to crank it up. Trip 'n T'Pol were never believable because they were both so frigid (in different ways). How anyone found their contrived, awkward tête-à-tête(s) remotely erotic is beyond me.

He told her mother in season four that liked arguing with T'Pol. It was the high point of his day. He came to neeeeeeed it and hang out for a good back and forth with her.

Does Tracy/Hepburn mean nothing to you people?

It wasn't the best, but it was a shit load better than when she tried to Ponfar rape Phlox.

I thought they did teenage angst quite well:lol:.

T'Pol was almost 70. It took a lot for the Vulcan to see any of these "humans" as much more than children.

The brain damage from all that Trellium D drug abuse probably helped.

I always thought Chakotay should have hooked up with Janeway. Maybe Seven could have gotten with Paris instead of Torres. I don't know...

They must have woken up ratarsed one morning naked and elected to never speak of it again.

Unless they're dead inside robots?

Guy, I'm curious . . . Is this how you normally think? Or are these the voices that speak to you at night coming out? Either way, you have a very twisted sense of logic that almost makes sense.

I think they're dead inside robots.

J/C to me is preposterous, but trying to twist the universe into making such outrageous slop seem reasonable gets me off.

Why do people not like these two being together?

I mean sure, I can see some issues.

Seven: Snoring is Irrelevant.
Chakotay: So is nagging...

But come on, all relationships have issues. Seven is attractive, and I would guess there are some women out there who think Chakotay is as well. So whats wrong?

Chakotay is soooooooooooooooooooooo boring. I've seen puppets who were more lifelike. Beltran is a crappy actor while Jeri Ryan is quite good. The disparity in their talent levels amde the paring weird and plain wrong.

The biggest reason Chakotay & Seven didn't work was that there wasn't an ounce of chemistry between them.

i was wondering if Chakotay had kept Seska's kid, whether it was his or not, taking "him" meant that he was the new pappy even if he biologically wasn't...

Would that make him a more perfect of less perfect mate for Seven?

I cannot describe Seven and Chakotay's retarded, awkward, poorly concieved, intelligence-insulting, not-believable-in-the-slightest, character-destroying, credibility-ruining relationship without using deeply unpleasent terms involving coat hangers and back alleys, so I'll just say that it was the single worst story in the history of Star Trek.

What were they thinking?

Amen... C/7 the worst thing ever!!!

Seven is an emotional adolescent and Chakotay is 20 years older than her. It was creepy.

Dido! Creepy! Akward too. the whole licking the finger thing..:wtf:

There's also the small problem of Chakotay spending three years wanting to shove Seven out an airlock.

People change, but we weren't really shown that change. They were never seen growing fond of one another.

And, anyway, Gaith's right - Seven just wasn't emotionally ready for a man of Chakotay's age and experience. It felt off-balance. Putting my preference for a J/C relationship aside, the age issue was also just too much for me to handle.

Yes the whole thing was poorly done.

This is the one time they should have told Kate to shut up and kiss him or else! Kate is stubborn so it may have gone badly.

There are subtle hints throughout Voyager that the whole C/J thing is one-sided on Chakotay's part. Janeway cannot afford romantic entanglements with her crew because she must remain focused on getting the crew home. She feels she got them into the Delta quadrant, it's her job to get them out of it and home.

Still, C/7 is a bit odd, to say the least. It's not Beltran, who has a very subtle acting style that I think a lot of people miss. A look, a nod, a smile does a lot more than a ton of dialog would. Some take that as wooden, but it's actually a more British style of acting that depends on subtleties rather than hit you over the head American overacting.

Ryan did a lot with an extremely difficult role that could have also easily gone over the top, yet she never really did. I feel they were both very good actors who didn't seem comfortable with the romantic pairing thrust upon them by the last episodes of the series. At the very least, it seemed to come out of nowhere.

Chak's an earthy guy who's seen and felt much, and is clearly attracted to strong, confident women. He should have had no interest in the emotionally stunted woman-child that Seven remained by the end of the series - and indeed, right up to the end, he didn't.

Seven should have ended up canoodling with either Redge or LaForge at the Rikers' wedding.

I agree with this! Seven and Chakotay were completely mismatched. I don't know what he'd see her other than what every guy would see, that she's physically attractive. I'm not saying Seven didn't have good qualities besides her looks, mind you, I'm just saying I can't see what other qualities would make Chakotay attracted to her.

I'm just glad she didn't end up with the Doctor. Anyone but the Doctor!! Even Neelix would have been preferable.
