CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

It's obviously not occurred to them that there is something called "lurking" in which "riff-raff" view but don't post.
Here's a snippet of explanation: "Terry McIntosh Exactly. Part of my due diligence for this decision was taking a census of the groups that I personally belong to and by a majority they're often set to 'closed,' including other Trek fan film groups, too. Again, it's just to keep out the riff-raff, and only members can see what goes on here now."

I thought Axanar was the most open and transparent of all the fan films. So the argument that they're going to do things the closed way other fan film groups do doesn't do much for the claim they're better than the others.

Also, "riff raff" must include donors who ask too many questions and get banned.

One person asks a legitimate question and they lock everything down?

That coupled with Alec's rantings on another group makes me beleive they're stressing a bit about tomorrow. I wonder why?

Also, this:

Riff-raff makes me think of Richard O'Brien.

I apologize in advance for the atrocious writing, etc. in that wiki. I don't know what 'punches with a lash' means, either.

The fun will begins on this Monday according to Axanar's PR guy Mike Bawden.

I was at Pensacon this weekend, and attended a Trek fan-panel of which Leslie Owens was one of the four panelists. She did indeed bring up Axanar. Nothing particularly wrong with mentioning Axanar and the lawsuit IMO, but it just seemed she took up too much time talking about it. During her Axanar bit, she brought up the "official" reason for Tony Todd leaving the cast (and honestly, I'm not 100% sure who's telling the truth there), and stated that they were "not worried" about the lawsuit. She also claimed that CBS was never actually interested in suing Axanar, but was pushed into it by Bad Robot. She repeated this during the Denise Crosby panel before she asked her question (the previous person brought up Axanar in their question, so it wasn't out of the blue).

Not Axanar related, but what I found interesting is that she's not against the upcoming show like you might expect the average Axanar supporter to be. She loves the fact that Fuller is on board, and was even cautiously optimistic when Kurtzman was initially announced, despite her dislike of JJ's s Trek, saying he actually had a few good shows on TV.

Oh, and she claims to have read the script for Beyond.

Who in the bloody hell is Leslie Owens and why is she on a panel and has the ability to read the script to Beyond?

Due diligence is the research investors do in a company to verify it is safe for their bucks, has managers competent and experienced in the industry, claimed assets actually there, forward looking income projections worth taking a chance on.

Due diligence is *not* deciding you want to tamp down outcry at adverse legal outcomes, and fishing around until you find a rationalization.

Leslie makes a lot of very colourful claims. It doesn't speak well for Axanar that they'd let her speak for them in any official capacity, donor or not.

Her biggest claim to Trek fame is a Picard/Riker fan fiction called "A Million Sherds", where Riker is abused and molested by his father Kyle, and eventually finds solace in Picard's magical healing cock.

What was the "official" reason?

Uh-huh.

Oh, and she claims to have read the script for Beyond.

Of course she has.

Looks like our Michael Hinman is out of the job because hey look--Leslie Owens is very much involved in the unfolding Star Trek news. I think she'll have the front row seat when Axanar crashes and burns right in front of her eyes.

Also, can someone find me the link that verified her claim that she's one of the two that "broke the story of Roberto Orci's firing on 30 October 2014, 45 days before the news showed up in the mainstream media"?

She did the captions for a picture book about tree frogs that was brought out years ago by a real publisher. Other than that, these are all vanity projects of one kind or another.

Who in the bloody hell is Leslie Owens

She's affiliated with Axanar, and is the person to whom the quoted Facebook post was directed. Sorry I didn't make make that clear.

and why is she on a panel
This was a fan panel, not a celebrity one. All four panelists were locals who have a prominent presence in the fandom, via involvement in fan organizations, etc.

and has the ability to read the script to Beyond?

She has some connections, which would theoretically be how she would be able to get a copy. I'm certainly not convinced that she's ever actually seen it, though.

And just to be clear, I'm just relaying what she said. I don't particularly believe any of it.

And they let this women read the script to Star Trek Beyond? Jesus Christ!

That's just what she claimed. Besides, even if she was telling the truth, I'm sure she wouldn't have actually been authorized to see it.
