Honestly if it was me, I’d have said to my kids to just avoid the Axanar table and Alec. I think the Axamonitor crew seem to have played it well over the con, doing nothing there that gave Alec grounds for complaint, knowing he’d probably give them plenty to talk about on his own (which he did).

There really is zero justification for Alec doing what he did though. He’s live on his own video stream (not allowed under the convention rules I believe?) chasing off some random kid who was just looking and trying to get a picture at the stall. It’s not a good look. There was nothing shown in his own video that gave him grounds to do that.

How did he know it was Shawn’s kid under that mask? I’d bet he had someone watching the Hero Prop booth who gave him a heads up.

Alec and Shawn are obsessed with each other…

Both adults also appear to have been able to confront each other at any time and yet, strangely, didn't.

… but oddly can’t seem to take it past the keyboard.

More often that’s not, we act differently online than we do in person. We say and do things we’d never say or do. That’s what bothers me about this entire situation. Honestly, if Alec would actually allow a sit down with Carlos or Shawn, or if as you suggest, Shawn would have gone to speak to Alec, maybe with one of them saying “enough is enough,” and opened a dialogue, and this whole thing would be over. Instead, it’s often a juvenile hunt for their white whale. On both sides of the argument. I adore Carlos and generally I like Shawn, but they are both as complicit in letting this thing go on as long as it has just as much as Alec is.

In principle, it's a noble cause trying to prevent Peters getting more free money for doing nothing but, after all these years, his regular donors simply don't care what Axamonitor says about it and as for new punters, well, if they're that willing to throw cash at somebody online without doing their due diligence in this day and age then if it's not Peters it'll definitely be somebody else.

I agree. After the settlement in the CBS suit came out, I came to the same realization regarding people who follow Alec. Ultimately, a grifter is gonna grift and a sucker is born every minute. We can’t change that.

I don't think at this point anyone really expects Axanar to be hitting more than a core fanbase. Every time he's tried to get funds, he's generally succeeded, but the amounts have diminished to the point where the whole thing could be easily ignored (which I imagine is clearly why CBS no longer care about him).

Carlos' approach is pretty much spot on at this point. He's often not seen for months on end, but when there's something actually news worth (the Jenkins documentary or the STLV panel), he'll report it. I think this is probably all that can really be done at this point. Really you just want the history out there to try and avoid anyone else getting badly sucked in (but even then they still ended up with Paul Jenkins as director, proving there's only so much you can do).

I am surprised to see the Avalon folks embrace Axanar as much as they have. I have enjoyed their fan films, so I do have to wonder if they'll end up on the long list of people who regret being involved.

Kids don't always listen to ya, BTW.

Our little guy is two and I could have told you that.

And Shawn did try to directly address the matter with Alec, Alec simply refused to talk to him and bravely ran away.

I was unaware of that and for that I give Shawn major kudos for the effort. Honestly, in the Axamonitor FB group, a whole lot of meme-y stuff comes from Shawn (which is banned? But he’s a mod so it’s okay?) so I often only get so deep into the comments before I stop scrolling.

Regardless, good on him!

The challenge in dealing with Alec is that he's a disgusting human being whose toxicity infects everyone around him, even those who are his critics. He lowers the level of discourse, lies with a breathtaking ease, and is always looking for ways to start fights. He's an exhausting opponent who lives to fight, lie, attack, and sue.
I don't disagree that some of his critics take it too far, but even at their very, very worst they don't come close to matching Alec's venality, toxicity, and narcissism. In 99.9% of the cases, they step back, apologize, and look to improve.

I don’t think anyone is defending Alec. I just wonder when enough is enough on some of this. It’s one thing to fight the good fight. It’s another thing when it just comes to be a personal vendetta.

I guess it's up to each individual - I've still got some piss and vinegar left.

Oh, I’ve never seen you as one whose taken any of this particularly personal. And there’s certainly something to be said about piss and vinegar.

Wow!! He could be an ex-President.
