Castle season 8 discussion thread - spoilers

I don't really watch the show, I tape it for my friend and wander in and out of the room... I remember seeing an episode that seemed to strongly hint time travel existed in their universe, and I just watched the penultimate episode which was about the antichrist.... how many other weirdo episodes have they done like this?

^ They used to do one weird / goofy, wink wink episode a year, maybe two. That seemed to increase as the showing on. Or maybe they didn't and they just go stupider.

.I don't know anything about the storylines they've been doing lately.

That's OK, neither do the writers.

And Random Spock, House at least was decent in the finale season, it actually improved greatly. Still unrealistic, but at least somewhat enjoyable.

Yeah, I finally saw the antichrist episode last night. Holy shit, how can a grown man act like that? Very stupid.

Yea I saw the finale and it was ok. Glad the last season was ok.

Castle is such a dope. Every time he thinks something supernatural is behind something...it isn't. Does he learn anything from it? No. He's too much of a man child. Just this year we've had a genie and an anti-Christ episode. Any other paranormal episode this season? It seems like there's one every other episode this year.

Like I said earlier, this is what started to turn me off from the show before the chemistry between Fillion and Katic went sour.

In the early years, the man-child stuff was fun (I'm thinking of the elaborate Halloween parties, or the steampunk episode), usually because it somehow involved his parental relationship with Alexis. And when they would occasionally do the supernatural stuff, Castle embraced it not because he believed it, but because it was another way to get under the incredibly rational Beckett's skin. It's when the writers had him stop trolling and start going all Fox Mulder on us that I started to get weary.

It's to the point of stupidity at this point. What if he's really the Antichrist? What is she's really a genie? Time travel!! It's a damn police procedural/romcom su[pposedly based in reality, fercryinoutloud. Cut the shit.

Hey... that's on the writers. I like Fox Mulder. I don't like what he became due to the writers though. It sucks when a character is reduced to a lame stereotype.

I don't like the man-child stuff myself, it was fun... now, not so much.

I watched the ending... yep lame. Looked like a horrible lame way to end the season long lame story. Then there was a lame 15 seconds 7 years later that I doubt the actors were even on set at the same time to film.

The 'alt ending' should have been no one was shot, but the bad guy and Beckett going "That was close... I'm pregnant" and have the 7 years later thing be a little longer.

Now I'm curious to what the original last 15 seconds were.

I think if the show had been given another season this episode would've ended with Castle and Beckett shot and bleeding out...fade to black. Then season nine would've opened with a time jump revealing Beckett had died. That way they could have Castle joking and being silly instead of being sad and mopey. And then he could find a new girlfriend to chase all season long.

So LokSat was also the head of the great detectives society? That was the lamest of reveals. I think they pulled that out of their asses. I doubt that was the plan going into the season. This whole LokSat arc was a total dud.

Better tacked-on ending would have been them in adjoining hospital beds, recuperating, with the gang around them, and some clever emotional sign-off line from Castle. What we got was the lamest tacked-on Hollywood Happy Ending™ since Interstellar.

I like that!

It's like when Law and Order ended. They thought they might get another season, but didn't. However it ended perfectly. After a day of work they all went out for a drink.

... :ack: ...

That ending was so last minute tacked on. Super grim to Super Happy. Only if the show was renewed, that 'did they die' ending would have rocked!

I can see the Castle writers arrogantly ripping off The Sopranos, and playing in a different Journey song, like Open Arms or Faithfully over the shot of Castle and Beckett lying on the floor bleeding out. End of Series.
What a waste of a season.

Well Beckett would have been dead and Castle obviously can't die.

I read somewhere else what would have made more sense than this trash. Beckett and Castle both still get shot and you get scenes of them at the hospital, but it's all out of focus, you hear hospital sounds and there friends around them. You hear someone flatlining in the background. Then you cut to Castle and Beckett finding out they will have children, and then you see the children grow a little more and a little more, add a new kid and such. That was it feels more in place, yet if they renewed it for a 9th Beckett is dead season the could say it was a dream. Castle wakes up and his daughter and that useless woman are running the PI biz, and the male cops are doing their male cops things.

It wasn't an alternate ending, it was just slapped on there after the cliffhanger. I rather the show ends with them both dying on the ground. A love story for the ages.

After viewing the ending (like the last 2-1/2 minutes of the episode) on YouTube, I think this would have been a better ending for the show:

Seriously, what you guys got was next-level bullshit on par with the ending of How I Met Your Mother and "These Are the Voyages." Thanks, ABC, for reaffirming my decision to quit watching.

I tuned in to the finale knowing that it wasn't likely to be the best ever since they'd finished filming long before they knew about the cancellation. But this? Worse than 'and then I woke up and it was all a dream.' Blech. One of the all-time lousy series finales.

Yea, pretty much. For us informed individuals, we know who was signed on and who wasn't. However, the general public probably doesn't and if it ended with both Castle & Beckett shot, it would have been a cliffhanger of a summer. But then again with social media these days, I guess even the masses would find out about who was not coming back.
