Castle - Season 7 discussion and spoilers

Nope.

My guess is we'll have to wait to the season finale, since I thought they were going to do something with the mid-season two parter.

Of course, they could've realized it was one of the worst writing decisions in TV history and are trying to sweep it under the rug.

Maybe on either. It seemed to be a cheap plot twist/point imo. Way soap opera like.

I gotta say, though, in an ep full of great individual moments, my favorite was the instant Kate grabbed the doc's wrist. That was just one little moment of perfect filmmaking - the camera angle, Stana's expression, the framing - everything. I love when things like that happen.

And, speaking of that moment - Castle and the crew were actually TOO LATE! If Kate hadn't gotten her hand free, she'd be dead. Which is, I guess, a nice balance between the male lead coming to the rescue, and the "damsel in distress" actually being a strong woman who can save herself.

Yeah. I saw the ending "twist" coming from a mile away.

Now we wait till next season where we find out trained Army Ranger sniper Javi Esposito didn't get the kill shot....

I have not seen the episode (haven't seen the last 5) but did they once again just shoot at 3XK only for him to fall somewhere out of sight?

You can spoiler answer me because i don't care about being spoiled for Castle anymore but others might who have not seen the episode yet.

Yeah. I don't get why they didn't shoot him in the head, but whatever.

Not that Castle is even remotely realistic or that it follows real procedures and tactics but Snipers only aim for the head in exceptional situations as it's a much smaller target than the torso.

With sniper rifles you usually have enough power to make a center mass torso shot into a kill shot (even if the target wears body armor) so Snipers don't risk missing by aiming for the head if they can help it.

I still would have shot him in the head. If for no other reason than we wouldn't have gotten that horrible death scene. I have seen better death stares / walks by high schoolers. It was eye rolling bad.

However I gave up on Castle a few episodes into the season because the story lines were so bad, and it doesn't seem like I missed much with the wedding. However the Castle PI episodes have been fun, so I'm somewhat happy.

It was basically a couples deathmatch. Castle vs 3XK, Beckett vs Nieman.

No. Or at least not really. They don't show his body on the floor, but he's standing in a room with Castle when he gets shot and falls out of (our) sight. Not out of Castle's sight, and certainly could check the body this time. Not ambiguous, and can't justify bringing him back unless they really want to go with the excuse that it really WAS the fake alias brainwashed into thinking he was Jerry, and Jerry is fine. Bit of a reach, though, even for Castle. This should finish 3XK, outside of a copycat or something.

Good riddance to bad plot arcs.

Well.. 3XK was the last remaining good plot line they had. These episodes were always very tense and high stakes.. it was the first and so far only time Castle actually "killed" someone (even if it was planned by 3XK and they went the "if you don't have the body he ain't dead" route).

Now they don't have anything really.. everybody is going through the motions and few things have actually happened. They had the awesome Castle family dynamic which went unused for more than a season, the fun couple/partner dynamic of Castle and Becket was replaced by a pre-case scene and maybe an after case scene and some (if any) banter in between.

Javi and Ryan are not moving much characterwise.. the last thing that really happened is that they put the lid on Espo and Lanie for good (debatable but i'd like to see them as a steady couple)..

So what will the show be about? Endless cases of the week? They haven't touched on the new Castle mystery all season long (i don't know if it's a good thing or not) which is why i haven't even bothered to watch any new episodes.

Honestly they should end it instead of joining the parade of milked to death shows. :(

While the 3XK plot could be exciting, it fully embraces the most ridiculous Hollywood tropes about serial killers. That they're all Lex Luthor-level super-geniuses with seemingly unlimited funds and endless resources to carry out Machiavellian plans with multiple misdirects to taunt police, and have a rogues gallery of doppelgangers and minions willing to take the fall for them or kill in their name. There have occasionally been serial killers that have one of those qualities (Manson had the cult followers, for instance) but TV and movie serial killers regularly have all those qualities and more in spades, when in fact real serial killers are fairly mundane by comparison.

So I could easily see why the 3XK plots could get tiresome for a lot of people, even though embracing the ridiculous and implausible has been pretty much standard operating procedure for Castle from day one. Admittedly, the show has gotten much worse about it in recent seasons, though, to the point where it's almost a cartoon sometimes rather than a crime drama with some goofy tendencies.

And I don't see any way the amnesia storyline is going to be resolved without dipping heavily into cartoonish territory. If he was running around as a CIA operative for a few months and then had his memory erased, that's some Jason Bourne shit.

My wife and I just finished the 3XK two-parter.

Best. Castle. Ever.

It has not been a great season up until now, but that was some riveting, heart-pounding shit right there. Castle turning the tables on him before Javier took the shot...excellent. I only wish we could have seen Beckett kill that fucking bitch.

That's certainly a lot of it. Another contributing factor is that EVERYbody was doing it! Bones also had a brilliant serial-killer nemesis directly targeting the leads. The CSI shows have had some as well. It really does defy credulity and get tiresome.

Another factor is that the shows expect us to remember what happened all the other times the character appeared - when you watch 6 different crime shows, and all of them have a recurring serial killer, and that character only appears once in a while. it's pretty easy to confuse which is which and forget what was going on.

I kinda watch TV to relax and enjoy - I don't take notes.
