Except one of them falls into the trope of "she's too well known to be in only the opening act, so she's gotta be heavily involved somehow". Ah well, no way around that for we nerds.

I miss Castle PI, those few episodes were tons of fun.
I think I have, yeah. I'm still recording them and saving them, but I've quit watching them. The PI stuff was the last straw for me.
Although I hate to see a great show leave us, I really hate to see a once-great show lose itself before it leaves us. I think Castle has lost itself. As always, YMMV.

I'll probably buy the season when it comes out on DVD, just for the sake of completeness (I also own Star Trek Nemesis and Shrek the Third

I knew it was going to be the mousy assistant when they were all in the car at the beginning. Everything else was just going through the motions.
Yeah, sadly the show has been stuck in a rut for a while now. The formula is so ingrained at this point you can almost call what's going to happen shot-for-shot. There's no surprises any more, there's no real mystery and the characters are just spinning their wheels.
They need to either seriously shake things up or put this one to bed.

They really should add some more secondary characters that aren't useless, and then kill some of them off. 
Just something to show there is still mystery and surprises. Also I'd like for them to address the fact Castle was missing, sure it's a stupid plot point, but I think they should have death with it one episode during sweeps, then lead up to the finale which obviously will.

That was one of the biggest mistakes with the more recent seasons.. doing away with Castle's family.
That whole dynamic with the overachieving daughter and the carefree mother is what defined Castle to a great degree and i loved the family scenes. Nowadays it's some relationshippy stuff with Beckett in the beginning and end of the episode which is nice once in a while but not always.
I remember the times when Beckett got to interact with Castle's family and it was always so nice, funny and good for Beckett to be part of something bigger than being all by herself.
Well.. not to beat a dead horse but this show really needs to find a graceful exit. It remains to be seen what's stronger.. artistic integrity or money (it's Hollywood so the latter wins more often).
