Carmilla the series

Why is there 17 episodes available?

I trust you two to keep me on top of Carmilla.

Not good enough, not good enough.

Because the other 19 will come out later. The season is done in three acts, act two on the 29th and act three on Oct. 13th both 7.30 PM Toronto time.

They decided to do it this way because the episodes often don't pace well, and a lot of the fandom were up at arms over Hollstein being broken up early in s2 and not reconciled in s2. This long act two was to get the basics of their reconciliation started as soon as possible. If they had used the old 2 episodes a week like before the audience wouldn't had that start for more than a month. Essentially, this schedule is damage control.

Being on top of Carmilla seems Laura's job at this point.

This season is really great, as always. Papa Hollis is awesome! His over-protective-ness is hilarious! So many pop culture references! The desk sex blew my mind! (Woo! Go Laura!) I'm surprised Sherman or LaF didn't hear them. Annie does an incredible job of portraying the Dean.

I wonder what Mattie is up to...

I'm definitely going to binge all the episodes again.

Why do I kinda wanna be Hirsch?

What's the music at the ends?

Supporting local music? Supporting random music? Paying cast and crew by advertising said cast and crews bands?

Why did Laura stop washing their hair?

How odd.

I suspect that ripping off Buffy quotes was a nod nod wink wink.

Very enjoyable.

And Rown and Martin's 'Laugh In' from way back in the 60s and 70s from Papa Hollis 'You bet your sweet bippy!' That's one I haven't heard in ages.

More than that, 12 left of 36. I guess the library must have sent Laura into the past? I suppose she's the one who left the messages around that they were reading on the door and stuff back in the first act? Fun, but too short. The Hollstein goodness was very good, indeed.

I never considered that's where she was. Excellent theory :)

I was squealing with joy over all the Hollstein action!

LaF's one-sided conversation with "Perry" was so sweet.

I thought Mattie's stuff was odd. It sounds like she's been sent back by Erishkagal, the Death Goddess, and sometimes it's her talking and other times it's Erishkigal or others talking. It was odd, I want to rewatch over the weekend when there is time. I was glad to see Laura fighting back. I thought s2 really downplayed her ability to defend herself a lot. The table action again and Laura's 80s hair afterwards was a riot. It was really touching when Laura finally said 'I love you' to Carmilla. They both played that scene very touchingly.

I agree. The Mattie/Death Goddess thing is confusing. Actually I find this season's plot a bit confusing.

How did they end up in the library? What's with the four talismans? I may need to re-watch too.

I loved seeing Laura fight back!

I guess Mattie is being allowed to use her body by Erishkigal but isn't fully there, kind of like a puppet. That makes me ask why the grave dust bothered her since the earlier conversations implied she wasn't really all there. It was all very murky and unclear what's up with Mattie.

The talismans weren't explained much better, were they? From the early episodes when they got that book, I recall the Summerian gods used them to bind Inanna in a human form. I suppose that limited her powers from her full goddess form? I guess the anglerfish in s1 was keeping her from opening these gates and the board all had control of the Talismans, one for each of the four. Nothing really foreshadowed this in s2 that I recall and I wonder if the story seems messy because the writer didn't really have this well plotted out?

I guess the Dean would want the talismans because she could use them to free herself from the human bonds trapping her? I don't see what the gang wants them for since they've done their job of binding the Dean. Do they want to bind her more? Get rid of her? To where if so? Kill her? There's nothing that sounded like the talismans were made to kill the Dean so I don't know what Laura's crew is really hoping to gain with them. Sure, I get the free Perry part, but then they have Inanna loose to deal with. I am not sure what Laura's play is supposed to be here.

I suspect s2 and s3 weren't really well planned out. Jordan Hall, the writer, and the producers may have had some idea for a longer story back when they made the first season but they and the sponsors had no idea how popular the show would be. Season 2 tried making a large mythos with varying degrees of success but the long hiatus before s3 makes me ask whether they were assured of getting a third season after s2 which was much less popular with the fandom before its end.

Breaking up Hollstein, killing Mattie, and then Danny, the convoluted story, all of that took a toll on the show's popularity. It's still widely successful for a webseries but they have clearly gone back to a lighter s1 tone this season. The story, though, remains full of plot holes and I think it's because Jordan never had the mythos she wanted locked down clearly. If older vampires are stronger as said in s2 why is Danny stronger than Carmilla? Is Mattie back or not? If Papa Hollis is worried about the kids why aren't all the families and the Austrian government involved, yet? What's the deal with The Board and the Talismans? There's a lot that doesn't hold up to the barest scrutiny and makes the story very messy. If Natasha and Elise were not so much fun to watch playing Hollstein, I am not sure I would have gotten far past s1.

I find it best to ignore the plot and focus on them. The story really isn't very well thought out to my satisfaction so it's easier to roll with the strange twists and eye roll and focus on the enjoyable parts which it still has a lot of.

I'm still hoping Perry can make a comeback. SZero gave her those witch powers she's suppressing. I wonder if they will use that to finally imprison Inanna like Tythia, the Fairy Queen?

There's no way the writers wouldn't give us back Perry (and Danny) before the series ends. That would be cruel.

Maybe I'm too much of an optimist.

We'll find out in 2 weeks. Meanwhile, Elise and Nat will be in NY next weekend for Comic Con. Maybe, there will be some spoilers, or at least some cute photos.
