Carmilla the series

Oh. You were being literal. I had a stupid moment. I am proud to say I've never been a Woo-Girl. I'd rather not embarrass myself in public.

I like the term "brain fart" to express my state during similar situations.

Is it unethical for a TA to date a student that they are teaching?

There's an episode of Coupling where they watched the wrong home made porn, where the phrase "Not-Susan" was coined, and never used again, which is what I find myself calling LaFontaine.

She had the best lines.

Milkspittingly best.

Well Buffy dated Riley and he was a TA in her psychology class so maybe. If it's the actual teacher dating their student then that might be a problem.

Btw, LaF is genderqueer. Such individuals do not identify with being exclusively male or female. Preferred pronouns are they/their/them. Just so you know.

But yes, they are awesome!

Be nice if the language shifted as with you so as to have 3rd person using the same pronouns. Rather liberating for everyone when the distancing it creates is abandoned like thou/you. They and they all for less plural confusion and all that gender stuff is behind everyone.

Danny had the power to fiddle with Laura's grades.

There's power to abuse there if they wanted to.

Gender is not as important as ginger.

You know it's only a matter of time till that apricot balloon goes up.

Done!

Very entertaining, although I didn't think Carmilla or Laura had good reasons for falling in love. One loved falling in love and the other loved being loved. Their schismatic personality foibles interlocked more than that they actually had a reason to forgive the other one for...

I concluded recently that Love is the amount of forgiveness you have for someone not being perfect.

I might check out some of the other serieses on their network.

Any suggestions?

Well, if Mattie (and literature) are to believed, Carmilla has a pattern of becoming hopelessly infatuated with naive young ingenues. They're her kryptonite.

And Laura seems to be deeply in denial about the fact that she's apparently the latest in a long string of wide-eyed young maidens that Carmilla has fallen in love with . . ..

Glad you enjoyed it, Guy. You watched past the end credits, right?

That's the only series on the channel that I've watched but you should check out Kaitlyn Alexander's (LaF) interviews with the cast. They are hilarious!

I also agree about their relationship. I don't really think they are good for each other. I've always wanted her and Danny to get together.

Kirsh had the best lines this season!

Greg, you're right. Laura is so in denial. Poor cupcake.

I think Laura's denial isn't about Carmilla's past relationships, but rather the full implications of what Carmilla's being an immortal vampire is. Mattie, while she was condescending about it, was spot on in telling Laura she was Carmilla's play toy for a moment. Humans are short lived mayflies to a vampire in Mattie's estimation. Laura rejects the view because she only sees the potential for harm to the humans of the school from that viewpoint.

Sooner or later, Carmilla and Laura are going to have to deal with the same crisis the Doctor and Rose had in 'School Reunion' like them, Laura can spend the rest of her life with Carmilla, but Carm can't do the same with Laura unless Laura wants to be a vampire which is unlikely for the moment with her current understanding of them.

You have a point. I think Laura has always been trying to sweep Carmilla's past under the rug because she doesn't want to deal with or acknowledge it, and it came back to bite her (the Mattie situation).

It will be interesting to see if the show will expand on its vampire mythology. So far, it's been happy to take humorous swipes at modern vampire tropes, but it hasn't established its views on vampires until Mattie came along. The first season didn't worry about it, I'm guessing because they probably didn't go with too much expectation beyond the one season. Mattie brought some of the world building with her. I am hoping that the show will expand on those themes in Carmilla and Laura's relationship as it goes forward.

Bingo. And I think that's why Laura is so fixated on the idea that Carmilla has "changed" no matter how much Carma keeps denying it.

Because if Carmilla has "changed," then Laura can keep telling herself that Carm's troublesome past doesn't matter anymore.

And the more Mattie keeps rubbing Carmilla's past and true nature in Laura's face, the more Laura keeps pushing the "vampire redeemed by love" scenario she's got running in her head . . ..

What's up with Laura's mother?

Dead or gone?

A missing female role model in her life could create some unhealthy attachment mandates bordering on an Elektra complex.

Carmilla is the best of both worlds.

Wise and protective and old like a mother.

Sexy and young like an appropriately aged sexual partner for Laura.

:)

Have you ever heard an over 30 year old man use the word MILF?

It's disturbing.

Laura seemed to keep coming back only to the blood sucking fiend aspect which Mattie did not much to discourage, but played with as a rather vampire troll on Laura. I saw her main point being that Laura's ideas of right and wrong were fixed in her time. To a vampire, all of that will pass and change as it has for Mattie and Carmilla down through the centuries. Carmilla made the same point in a more romanticized way when she was giving her back story to Laura in season one.

If it is like the novel, then her mother died when Laura was quite young.
