Sounds plausible.Pike is revealed as a Section 31 Agent, recruited by his mentor Admiral Marcus.
Michael Burnham inspires Pike to change his ways, and betray Section 31 in order to embrace Starfleet ethics and ideals.
Section 31 vows to eliminate Pike and plants an explosive on his J-Class training vessel after his Captaincy of Enterprise has ended.
Pike knows Section 31 did this, but is unable to reveal it as he is left in a severely injured state;
Also, Tilly is on the training vessel and comments on how hot Pike is....as he is burning in the explosion;

Gets back to TOS' roots as a WesternOr Timothy Olyphant from Deadwood and Justified, if he wasn't currently tied Netflix's Santa Clarita Diet. It's interesting how modern Western actors seem to be a good fit for Star Trek. Could we fit Clint Eastwood in there?

Not just modern Western actors. DeForest Kelley mostly did Westerns prior to STAR TREK. And Jeffrey Hunter co-starred with John Wayne in THE SEARCHERS . ...
Don't bet on it. And if they show the bridge of the Enterprise, don't bet that it will look like TOS either.

I agree with you that the bridge will probably be different, but I do have hope that the uniforms will be closer to the original, based on what the producers said at the Wondercon panel.

A fan asked if the uniforms will evolve to something more familiar.
Aaron Harberts: "Well, we bump up against the Enterprise at the end of our [season one] finale, and we know what kind of uniforms they wear. So, we will leave it at that."
Interesting. If they show Pike in the exact same uniform he wore in The Cage, I will streak down my street.
"The Cage" 's Pike is sexist, so make him a sexist as****e in DIS.
Not that hard to update. Black boots, black pants. The chain-mail on the sides of the DSC uniform covers the whole 'Re-Caged' shirt, with the shoulder striping of the former making it upstairs to form the turtleneck of the latter. Same gold/bronze for Command and Operations divisions, Science becomes a cool metallic blue instead of silver. You can even keep the DSC medical uniform, just tint it duck-egg blue. Done.

Well written, the comment was actually regarding sexism of PIke, not uniforms.
