Captain Marvel (2019)

This is... interesting. And it may not even have anything to do with Captain Marvel, although it seems a likely bet. Just Jared posted these pics of Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders on the set of what's said to be "Marvel project". (potential spoilers)

The pics are of an eye-patch-less Nick Fury and Maria Hill reacting to some event. We know that young Fury will have both eyes in the 90s, but with Hill in the shot it must be present day. Has Fury given himself a bionic eye? We know the tech is there from Agents of SHIELD (hopefully without the bomb). Will the patch be added digitally? Is Fury a Skrull? Is Hill?

^^
There are also pictures of Samuel L Jackson with his eye patch on in that link. If I were to guess, the pictures without the patch could just be between takes where Jackson took it off.

^^^
While he may not be wearing the eyepatch in some shots, he does seem to be wearing the scar make-up, so this is probably not a flashback. That;s assuming of course that the 'Captain Marvel' is set in the 90's thing is still accurate.

What else beside 'Captain Marvel' would they be shooting around now anyway? The next Avengers movie after Infinity War? Spider-Man 2?
I think there are another three movies on the slate for 2020, two as yet untitled plus GotG2. Seems a bit early for GotG3 and while not impossible, an appearance by those two characters seems unlikely. As for the other two: who knows? Until we know who makes it out of Avengers 3 & 4 alive it's anyone's guess. (Cap4 & Strange2 would be mine, incidentally.)
Like I said though, seems a bit early for those as well. So yeah, odds are it's either 'Captain Marvel' or 'Avengers 4' that's shooting right now.

Cap M suit looks pretty generic. Why is it green with blue and not red with blue?

Reminds me of how they made the Wonder Woman suit ugly brown in BvS and it looked terrible... thank god they listened to criticism and made it red and blue in her solo movie.

Pretty hard to judge the outfit as is. It's close cropped, from one angle, and with specific lighting. It'll probably look better in action.

But there I go again, resisting the knee jerk reaction...

Let's try and remember that in the very first MCU movie, there was a gradual progression from Tony's first suit (and even the components of the Mk1 !) to the final, iconic red and gold "Iron Man" look. There's probably going to be a similar thing here, with them saving the red/blue/gold version until later in the movie.

See also: 'Wonder Woman', 'Batman Begins', both 'Superman' & 'Man of Steel', 'The Rocketeer' and probably just about every iconic character origin story ever. Hell, even in the rebooted Tomb Raider game they waited until the final boss fight to give her both pistols!

Anyway: not much to say about the design besides to reiterate my approval that there appears to be an aesthetic connection to Roger's uniforms (sans the 'Avengers' version.)

Is that green the actual color or for green screen?
That's actually a very good question. It's worth noting that every heroe's costume gets a CGI makeover before it hits the screen. In fact of the case of Spider-Man and the Black Panther, despite the actors wearing fully functional suits on the sets, the suits you see them wearing in the movies are fully CGI. It's very possible that everything we see in this picture will be replaced in post-production.

Definitely the suit's own pigment since 1) the material doesn't look anywhere near reflective enough to pick up that much colour bounce. 2) There are several distinct shades of a sort of cool mint green, none of which really match the much warmer tone of what chroma key usually looks like And 3) any lighting technician that allowed that much bleed from the green screen within ten miles of the principle should probably be fired.

Plus, as stated above, it seems to be reminiscent of the very early Captain Marvel suit colours.

According to IGN there was an issue of her series where Carol did wear a green and white Kree Uniform, so there is precedent for it in the comics.

CBR also discusses a possibility that this could tie into a theory that's going around about the plot for Avengers 4.
Apparently there were some set photos from A4 that have lead people to think it involves an alternate reality, so CBR's Justin Carter theorized that maybe this is from a scene in that reality and that it's a set up for her role there.

I think that's the Captain Marvel costume because it has the starburst in the chest area.

Kree uniform wouldn't have that, and it can't be a Kree logo because Carol wouldn't wear a costume with the logo of an alien race that wants to invade Earth.

I found this interesting (and well researched) piece on the MCU Exchange.

Apparently this week is a part of a brief production period before production really begins in full in late March. It seems that Marvel qualified for a tax break with the state of California, but in order for Captain Marvel to qualify, production had to begin by a certain date, which happened to be this week.

The law allows them to take a four month hiatus during filming and still qualify, and they are going to take only two after beginning production this week. So, Marvel is cool with the tax man and we get an early look at the Captain Marvel suit.
