Not necessarily, sometimes it takes a hard-nosed leader to get the job done, and that was why Jellicho made for a good captain.

Jellico is often not given the credit due. He was a solid, 3 dimentional character, who was skilled, strong willed, and capable. The only thing wrong with him is he wasn't Picard.
People often forget that he made sure to secure Picard's safe release in the end.
The commande crew, especially Riker, were behaving like a bunch of whining babies. At least the rest seemed to calm down and get used to him.

I just rewatched 'Chain of Command' for the first time since my teenage years, and was surprised by how much I liked him (my younger self didn't). I liked his no-nonsense, snappy style of command.

Though I don't see why he needed to ditch Picard's fish.

In my 22 years in the navy, there are more commanders like Jellico than there are Picard..IMO.

Oh I so agree...the moment Worfy got away with murder (Durass) I knew right then and there that Picard would let his officers do things above the law..and get away with them. Then again, since he himself killed thousands of Federation officers and crew, I guess it is par for the corse.

The thing is, though: Jellico succeeded in his mission, whereas Picard failed. Then Jellico helped save Picard. Butthead or not, Jellico was mostly in the right.

I back up Robert Scorpio's point about not really knowing much (save for the White House tapes), but I also feel that the situation here was a bit different than the Cuban Missile Crisis. For one thing, the intel on the Cardassian forces was a lot more solid than what both sides had during the missile crisis.
