Capaldi can't be The Doctor???

Yeah, the New Adventures novels sort of had the storyline where the Seventh 'killed' the sixth because he was too unstable, and a new, more stable but darker Doctor needed to be "born". Sort of like what happened in "Night Of The Doctor", except in not quite the same way.

The audios and to a lesser degree "Trial Of A Time Lord" however show the Sixth Doctor becoming somewhat more stable (including even giving up the coat temporarily for a blue version) and Doctorish than in Twin Dillema and season 22(Despite the "Mindwarp" incident, although that was probably due to his mind being tampered with) although still very ego-driven.

There were times that Amy was being a tad unfair and acted like a spoiled brat - but IMO, she's one of the more consistently written female companions, and my second favorite companion to Donna in NuWho (Rose would've been second, if she didn't become as possessive of the Doctor from the second series on, and if RTD didn't keep bringing her back).

I remember reading a theory that Seven actually arranged Six's death to secure his own creation! Too much wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey for me!
I think that was a storyline for the books. I don't mind it myself, but admittedly I haven't read much New Adventures to actually judge.

Even so, its a better explanation that bumping his head on the console or whatever. I still want Big Finish to do an actual regeneration story for Old Sixie!

I'd heard about that. I don't count the books as continuity, but if the 7th had killed one of my favorite Doctors, it would be another reason to despise that psychopath

As for Amy, I liked her, and her accent never annoyed me. With the Capaldi stuff, I don't get hating him before you see him, especially based on age or accent. I have many reasons why I hate the 7th Doctor, but his scottish accent isn't one of them. Unless Capaldi has an accent that is so thick its hard to understand (I can't remember what he sounded like in Fires of Pompeii, but I'm 99.9999999999999999999% certain his accent wasn't thick), to me his accent doesn't matter at all.

Then again, as an American I can barely tell the differences between the accents of any Doctors (they all sound different obviously, but I just take that as them being different people with different voices). They all sound like various shades of English to me (outside of the 7th sounding a bit scottish at times). Like I said, unless I can't understand Capaldi, his accent has no bearing into how I'll judge him. Also, complaining about his age is ridiculous. The Doctor is over 1000 years old, he doesn't always need to look young. Plus, Capaldi doesn't look like he's over the hill, he looks like a perfectly acceptable age for The Doctor t me.

Music to my ears, but then I love ladies with Scottish accents, and if they happen to be red heads and gorgeous into the bargain its a perfect storm.

Ps. Mel's all right...

pps. I'm joking...

I don't really mind Mel now in retrospect.

She has done some decent audios.
I don't think I've heard her in more than one or two Audios, but, The Valleyard Doctor Who Unbound Audio He Jests at Scars really raised her up out of my hatred (I really despised her screeching for a lot of years)

Give #65 Juggernauts a listen.

Also worth noting David Tennant did some voice work for the licensed audio dramas by Big Finish before being cast as the Doctor.

Not sure what you mean by Jean Simmons-I think you mean Jean Marsh.

Yep, meant Jean Marsh, but I'm not gonna change the original post as cause too much confusion! :)
As a point of Whovian trivia, Jon Pertwee and Jean Marsh were married for a few years, during the early '60s:

HE APPEARED IN DOCTOR WHO BEFORE! THEY CAN'T RE-USE ACTORS LIKE THAT!

Of course, this is correct. I mean, it's not like Colin Baker appeared as Commander Maxill before he became the Doctor is it? And Jean Simmons had what three Doctor Who appearances? Lest we forget Freema Agyeman and Eve Myles from the recent shows, and the fact that Capaldi himself was in both Who and Torchwood.

The Fires of Pompeii has already spawned two major actors (Capaldi and Gillan) so I'm gonna be looking at that episode for future Doctors/Companions. :)

And of course, it also had Tracey Childs in it, who at that point had already played Klein for Big Finish and would return to the role again years later.

The only thing I will say about Capaldi is that I don't quite get why he is allowed to use his natural Scottish accent, while David Tennant I believe was asked not to use his. Also just for continuity I guess. But then again I don't care much about continuity when it comes to this show.
Lots of planets have a Scotland. :)
I find David Tennant anything quite pleasing to my ears...eyes...errr :p
, So, you've seen him in Casanova?

I wasn't the biggest fan of Amy. I tolerated her and liked her more when Rory was there (Of the current Who companions who have completed their journeys, I'd rate them Rose-Donna-Rory-Martha-Amy. Clara has only been on for half a season, but I already like her more than Amy.), but I, too, loved her accent.

I'm new to Doctor Who. I've seen a few episodes of the First Doctor and just recently got caught up with the new show, but I've done my research on the previous Doctors and know who they all are and a little bit about their personalities. I'm really looking forward to Peter Capaldi. After seeing the Doctor getting younger and younger it's nice to have him older again.

I'm the type of person who gets excited about something new. I hate it when shows stick to the status quo for years, never changing anything or adding anything. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't work. Often it REALLY doesn't work. But I think they have to take risks to tell good stories.

Well that's one of the great things about DW, you might not like the current Dcotor and/or companion but give it a year or two and one or more of them might have changed.

I also prefer Clara to Amy (so far) not saying Amy was bad or it might just have been the stories but I found season 7b with Clara more interesting than season 7a with the Ponds.

I loved Amy and her accent :) I am looking forward to Capaldi's version of the doctor and I like the idea that he might have more then 1 companion. I would love to see him interact with River but that won't be a deal breaker if it doesn't happen.

I really, really loved River and wouldn't mind at all if she made another appearance, but I kind of feel that her story has been told. So if she never appears again I won't be mad.

The problem with Clara is that she doesn't an actual personality. She's smug, opinionated and rather full of herself, but other than that, I wouldn't say she has much of a defining personality, other than the girl-enchanted-by-Doctor-and-secretly-has-crush-on-him-but-won't-admit-it-to-herself-even thing. I look forward to expanding her, personality-wise, in the eighth series.

Jenna Coleman is terrific. They could cast Rush Limbaugh as the Doctor and I'd still watch it for her.

I agree 100%. I think Jenna Coleman is a big part of why I love Clara. I remember seeing her first appearance at the beginning of season 7, and, knowing she would be a regular later, I couldn't wait for her to return. I also thought the mystery surrounding her was intriguing.

At the beginning I thought clara was a bit bland, kind of boring. Though she has improved a bit since the season finale last year. I hope she doesn't become a Rose 2.0 (eh, I couldn't stand that character). I am way over the Main characters falling in love or having crushes on each other trope.
