Building the Eaglemoss Enterprise-D partwork

Well, if you need decals advice closer to the time I’ll be here. That I do know about.

Weird they’d print details on some bits but not others… I love applying decals and working with setter/softener to blend them in but they can be a pain in the ass to align.

I guess they're leaving the main nameplate as a finishing touch, but it might've been fun to offer decals for all 6.5 canonical Galaxies.

I was thinking that. It's weird they'd go halfway rather than all or nothing.

Still, never mind. It's a beautiful saucer shot!

The BTTF DeLorean had a large mirrored base upon which to set the completed model (with or without the BTTF III railroad tracks), with a nameplate and acrylic box to cover it up when complete. They might do that for the E-D build as well, although that thing will be friggin' YUGE!

This would be AMAZING, I would definitely upgrade to a stand such as this! :adore:

Blacking out unlit windows so that there is no light leak is a royal pain in the ass!!! Oh the number of hours I have now spent doing this!

I read somewhere online that black electrical insulation tape is not good for blocking the light leak on this model as it will peel off with time. They were recommending a modeling putty to do the job instead. Black tape is perfectly fine though in my opinion as it is compressed behind the light reflectors and hull which are screwed in tightly together so will remain in place ‘forever’, it is locked firmly between the two panels. :bolian:

On another note, I’m thinking of writing a message and sealing it inside the saucer section, and maybe in the secondary hull too… like a ‘message in a bottle’ that will never be opened again yet always be there regardless. What do you think? Of course, I won’t be able to post anything about what it actually would say if I were to do so, that would defeat the object…. maybe I’ll write a Star Trek fan fiction novel and stuff it inside?? Never to be read but always externally admired as the USS Enterprise D!:guffaw:

Here is an update without the main model…

This is the first time ever that I have worked on the model from home… so I can’t fix any of the parts or panels to the model until tomorrow as the rest of it is at school (work!).

I’ll post an update when all of these panels are attached and aligned correctly. :bolian:

I believe such a stand will be offered as a special at some point. At least customer service indicated that to me. I'm hoping that the base (with lights) will come with a power cord so that I can illuminate the model indirectly, but constantly. I'm not a huge fan of all the batteries in the model. And if you run the lights for any length of time, I imagine changing batteries might become a weekly chore that I'm not willing to do.

Definitely hide a message in it. In 100 years when someone fixes it up, it'll be a really cool surprise.

Write "Richard S. Ta was right" and nothing else. :D

Yeah, not to mention the risk of battery leakage. The problem is each section has its own discrete circuits that aren’t joined together as far as I can see. It seems crazy not to be able to run a model of this size off the mains.

one thing im worried about, is in the future if one of those boards stops working is it going to be a nightmare to open it up and replace it.
A skilled model maker could do this, I could probably just about do this myself. However it would be a pain to do so. In theory, the whole thing could be deconstructed and rebuilt though this would be a last resort job that I would never want to perform myself and hopefully will never need to! Some of the escape pods have hidden screws below them, the underside can be removed using these hidden external screws to access the electronics. :bolian:

In theory, someone could remove all of the current electronics and replace them if inclined to do so.

I dont know if your on the facebook group but a lot of people are replacing the circuity with an Arduino now.
