In show reason? With all the damage the school should have from the vampire attacks, maybe they think the nearby bar is closer.

It's probably pretty fair to say there aren't a lot of venues to choose from in Sunnydale, unless you're down for abandoned warehouses or churches/graveyards. I could definitely believe the Bronze actually automatically functions as the central community/activity center of the town. And we see at various different times that the Bronze specifically has a desire for/system for underage customers, anyway, so it's never really presented as a purely adult venue.

Also, why does Sunnydale High School host official school events in a bar?

They serve alcohol in a number of episodes. Mostly it doesn't come up during the early seasons, but it's there. In later seasons there's mention of, IIRC, hand stamps for underage patrons. Also, when comparing different views of the club from different episodes, it's at least possible that it has different setups at different times, ie, college kids night vs. high school kids night.

I know I'm old, but I still don't get why it's wrong to wear the costume of another culture for Halloween. The whole point is to dress up as someone you're not, maybe give a nod to something/someone you appreciate.

I'm watching the Inca episode, and can someone gag Xander please. Maybe this is a product of the time (And Willow's bib suspenders) but every single comment he's making is cringeworthy. This is the first time I've actually noticed it as very obvious.

This episode is highlighting the reputation of dirty american quite well.

Also, Scott Evil is in Buffy and he's wearing an Islanders shirt. That's kinda cool.

Xander only gets more annoying and creepy as the series goes.

I think they toned him down after his behaviour in season 6, but everything before that with him is cringey.

Xander does not age well as a character, he's got fingers in a lot of unseemly pies; objectifying women, sexual entitlement, gay panic, consent issues. And there are more to come I won't spoil.

I can't honestly say I noticed much of it watching as a teenager, probably because it wasn't that unusual, either on TV or among my peers, but my opinion of him with adult eyes is not very high. If you compare his behaviour to Oz, there is often a stark contrast.

Not that I know of, but I agree, it isn't Brendan's fault at all. I do wonder whether Joss Whedon, who often described Xander as his insert character, has any thoughts on the subject. In the intervening years Joss' own conduct has allegedly somewhat mirrored his insert character so perhaps he would retain a blind spot there.

The actor has unfortunately spent much of his time since the show ended in serious alocohol issues.

He had one of my favorite all-time lines when Cordy asked him if he thinks of sex when he looks at her.

I think it was more because, with the people involved in season seven, it became pretty obvious that he probably shouldn't be making some of his classic comments. Yet he still manages to say several distasteful things through the course of the season.

We really love those shows, but I put Angel above Buffy.

I was a little curious so I checked Brendon's wikipedia page and while I know Wikipedia isn't the best source for information, reading about his arrests and problems (to put it mildly) with the law really shocked me. I'm actually surprised he's still alive, as perverse as it might be to say. There are so many instances where child or teenage actors start breaking the law and load up on arrests and it ends in tragedy.

Xander’s pretty average for “Fun dumb guy” characters from the 90s. You didn’t see it the same way then because teenage male behavior was expected to be lewd and sex obsessed.

There’s only one episode where he tries to go around consent and in that he was only planning to dump her. And you can’t hold a guy’s fantasy against him, only his actions.
