Surprisingly, I could. How is it now?
One thing that irritates me: the last scene between Beth and Ellie.Beth is in horrible pain over the death of her son and Ellie is feeling horrible and humiliated that her own husband was the murderer.
Ellie should have told Beth that she was very sorry.
For Beth to have said "in your own house, how could you not know?" echoing what Ellie said to Susan Wright. Well, Beth, how did you not know that your 11 year old son was sneaking out all the time? Not only was Danny spending hours at a time after bedtime with the neighbor and father of his friend, he was visiting his sister's boyfriend's farm with his dad's employee during waking hours. Didn't she ever check up on the kids?!
Broadchurch will become the new Cabot Cove.Just finished watching it with Hubby. I totally called it. Knew who it was--thought it was at least really obvious who put the body on the beach. Did NOT get the motive, though. I thought other people would be involved.
But I did love how the last words were mirroring early statements--very effective, that. Not sure exactly what they are going to do with season 2--new cast, new crime? But I really liked this show. It was intriguing, very emotional and just fascinating to watch.

Going from the trailer there seem to be many scenes that pretty much straight out of Broadchurch, so it leads to the question - why make an American version?

Your'e assuming it's a note for note remake. As mentioned, it's rumored to have a different ending and who can say what twist and turns it will take on the way?Why not? There's a different between a sitcom which has a lot of freedom to differ from the original and a 10 part series with a defined start, end and story line.
It's like the scene for scene remake of Physcho a few years back - doesn't add anything.
