Broadchurch on BBCA

Thanks. Obviously, it doesn't affect me, but I'm sure there's somebody who wants to catch it on demand instead, so that'll help them out.

To comment on your point some more:

I thought the "how could you not know" was very effective because it paralleled DS Miller's own words. I also do think it's something Beth would say and think. Forgiveness takes time and understanding is difficult to do when in shock. Ellie's face sold how distraught she was, but that doesn't mean that someone who is upset is going to recognize or appreciate that. There clearly was a lot both parents didn't know about Danny. He went game hunting with Nige, he hung out with Joe Miller, I can't remember for sure, but I feel like he walked the old lady's dog, he got a different cell phone than the one he had before, etc.

BTW, I also think it's interesting that Tom threatened to accuse the Priest of molesting him. I'm not sure what that suggests, but it seems like he picked up some vibes from his father. It was also what Danny threatened to do. I feel like Tom was less ignorant of the whole thing than Ellie.

Just finished watching it with Hubby. I totally called it. Knew who it was--thought it was at least really obvious who put the body on the beach. Did NOT get the motive, though. I thought other people would be involved.

But I did love how the last words were mirroring early statements--very effective, that. Not sure exactly what they are going to do with season 2--new cast, new crime? But I really liked this show. It was intriguing, very emotional and just fascinating to watch.

One thing that irritates me: the last scene between Beth and Ellie.
Beth is in horrible pain over the death of her son and Ellie is feeling horrible and humiliated that her own husband was the murderer.

Ellie should have told Beth that she was very sorry.

For Beth to have said "in your own house, how could you not know?" echoing what Ellie said to Susan Wright. Well, Beth, how did you not know that your 11 year old son was sneaking out all the time? Not only was Danny spending hours at a time after bedtime with the neighbor and father of his friend, he was visiting his sister's boyfriend's farm with his dad's employee during waking hours. Didn't she ever check up on the kids?!

Agree.:(

Broadchurch will become the new Cabot Cove. ;)

These 8 episodes have been some of the best TV I've seen in a long time. Can't imagine that they are really going to mount another series. Has this been officially announced?

It has. I can't find the link. They said it'll be completely different and won't involve a murder. Aside from that, I guess it's wait and see.

I'm halfway through the series right now. I'm not a huge fan of British television, but this is some of the best television of the season. It rivals True Detective and is certainly better than The Fall.

It is an AWESOME series. It's one of the best "village murder" series I've ever seen.

So.....have you figured out whodunnit yet? ;)

The American version, called Gracepoint starts on October 2nd on FOX. David Tennant stars in this one as well but he plays a different detective.

Going from the trailer there seem to be many scenes that pretty much straight out of Broadchurch, so it leads to the question - why make an American version?

The great Fred Allen once said, "Imitation is the sincerest form of television." If someone thinks there's money to be made, ratings to be snagged, they'll copy anything that was successful somewhere else.

I'm sure there are plenty who have not seen Broadchurch, so I'm sure that's part of it. Although, for me, there were too many similar notes that it made it difficult to watch the trailer.

I will say that we've been told the ending is different, at least.

Why not? American adaptations of British shows gave us All In the Family.

There's a different between a sitcom which has a lot of freedom to differ from the original and a 10 part series with a defined start, end and story line.

It's like the scene for scene remake of Physcho a few years back - doesn't add anything.

Your'e assuming it's a note for note remake. As mentioned, it's rumored to have a different ending and who can say what twist and turns it will take on the way?

Sorry bit of thread necromancy here.

Showtime in Canada is starting Series 2 of Broadchurch this week but haven't seen any other mentions (ad was a suprise when I was watching last night's Hawaii 5-O).

Has it shown in the UK yet or has it slipped by everyone's notice?

Oh and I see that Gracepoint won't be back for a second series.
