Brian Brophy didn’t return?

In a deleted scene from Star Trek: Generations, Brian Brophy parachutes from earth after orbital skydiving, which he did for real.

Brophy auditioned for the part of the Kirk-Killer Bridge in GEN, too. But the producers passed on him because Brophy would have killed Kirk instantly.

He also flew the Phoenix in First Contact. He built it himself and actually went to warp with it, but it had to be scaled back for the final film because he accidentally ended up in the Orion Nebula in just five minutes.
When his ringship fell apart at Orion (having made the run in in only 12 parsecs!) Brophy willed himself back home, something like this:

Of course, for budgetary reasons, they then needed to build a smaller craft for the Phoenix, and the rest is history...
 
Replicators cannot create the perfect meal for Brian Brophy so he built a replicator using his own memory engrams to finally get the job accomplished.
