Bob Sheppard ill, may not make 2008 Yankees season

Mr. Laser Beam

Fleet Admiral
In Memoriam
As anyone who's seen a Yankees game knows, Bob Sheppard has been the home announcer for over 50 years now. Lately he has been rather ill and might miss the 2008 season. Linky

Damn. :(

That would be a real shame, considering he IS the voice of Yankee Stadium, which is in its last year. His monotonous style can never be emulated, as he does it so perfectly

I will definitely miss him if he is unable to continue as the announcer. And I'm not even anywhere near a "real" diehard Yankees fan (although I do love the team and I go to New York several times a year). I can only imagine what they must be feeling right now. :(

I hoped that Bob would at least get to announce a few games in the new ballpark. I hope he still can. He's almost a hundred years old (he was born in 1910), so whatever happens, we know he has had a long and full life.

Update: He says he definitely plans to return, but doesn't know when yet. He told the NY Daily News: "I don't know when it will be, but it will be."

Good luck Bob! :techman:
