Blackadder!!!

Well, it's kind of hard to ignore Brian Blessed :)

I love Blackadder, the second season is probably my favorite, but every other season has its moments too. The first has a hilarious episode about a Spanish infanta and an episode about the witch-hunter (or smeller), the second was hysterical from the first moment with Bob to the last with Hugh Laurie dressed as Queenie, the third had a great bunch of characters and the fourth was a turn towards the more serious subject, while maintaining the general atmosphere of insanity ...

I love Blackadder, though I'm not too fond of the first series. The fourth series is my favourite ("Boom! Boom! Boom" Boom!") though my favourite character is Miranda Richardson as Queenie, followed by all characters played by Fry and Laurie (if you like Blackadder I recommend getting your hands on A Bit of Fry and Laurie, which was their comedy sketch show).

My favourite episodes are:
!. the quest to gather up the most evil men the land
II. Potato (You have a woman's legs!) Tom Baker and Simon Jones stole the show in that one.

Third. Ink and Incapability for its brilliant non-words "May I be the first to offer you... my most sincere... contraflibbularities" "I shall return interfrastically!" Hands up who uses those words? I know I do!
-also the election episode - imminently quotable (Pitt the glint in the milkman's eye?; You don't know what a rotten borough is, do you sir?; Nonsense, sir. Only you and I have access to your socks...; not to mention the entire election scene itself (Colin is a dog, sir)
Fourth: Private Plane. Private Plane. Private Plane. I won't say anymore about that as the OP hasn't seen it. Oh, and the 'great universities' line from General Hospital of course!

Definitely my favourite comedy series of all time with Red Dwarf Black Books just behind.

I would also recommend Jeeves and Wooster, a series shown on Masterpiece Theatre several years ago. Fry and Laurie were outstanding as P.G. Wodehouse's perfect butler and bumbling young gentleman in London before WWI. :techman:

Bertie Wooster is who I see when I watch House sometimes. I keep hoping Hugh Laurie will say "Fink-Nottle" (the name of one of Bertie's friends).

Quite like Blackadder.

I understand another 1960s idea that was floated was of our hero as a Sixties fashion photographer. That could have been funny.

Big fan of the series. My favourite is probably series two, I preferred Blackadder when he had two foils and Percy wins over Laurie's character in series 4 for me, though series 4 has the best ending of all them.

Funny that this thread cropped up, as it's been announced that Blackadder's famous codpiece is up for auction.

Speaking of codpieces...

BALDRICK
My uncle Baldrick was in a play once.

BLACKADDER
Really?...And what did he play?

BALDRICK
Second codpiece. Macbeth wore him in the fight scenes.

BLACKADDER
So he was a stunt codpiece.

BALDRICK
Yes.

BLACKADDER
Did he have a large part?

BALDRICK
Depends who's playing Macbeth.

:guffaw:

Oh man... that was a much needed laugh for the day!

I am a huge fan of Blackadder and have the DvD boxed set of every episode. I find it sad that more people seem to know about Mr Bean instead.

I see that the complete TV collection just came out in a remastered DVD set. Does anyone know if the quality is that much better than the original set?

I've just started to watch this series, thanks to the library. I was so-so on the first series, but the second series has been a great improvement. Making Blackadder into a more intelligent character rather than a complete buffoon as he is in series one was a wise move, I think. I'm looking forward to series four the most.

I'm almost glad they didn't have a fifth series. By that point Baldrick would barely be able to walk upright, he gets so much dumber every time.

After hearing about it for years, I just started watching it on netflix thanks to this thread. Just finished episode 5 of series 1.

:guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:

Just finished it, what a great series!

Two favorite lines:

1: "I've got a plan so cunning you can brush your teeth with it!"

2: "Always treat your kite like you treat your woman! Get inside her 5 times a day and take her to heaven and back!"

:guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:

WOOF!
