Maybe people are simply getting tired of the MCU. I know people have bee6 making this prediction for like 10 years now but sooner or later the end will come. You already hear people talk about how they see Endgame as basically the end of their interest. That doesn't even count the political complaining coming that wasn't their before from the usual YouTube suspects. I do find it kind of interesting that this is also happening as the Arrowverse is also loosing stream so maybe this a reflection beyond just the MCU but comic book movies and shows as well. Maybe people are craving a new genre whether it be Sci Fi or the old school blockbusters or the return of the anti-hero stuff. I do wonder what the next big thing will be.

Besides, the eighty million Black Widow pulled in opening weekend is still the highest single weekend gross for any movie in 2021, and possibly since the pandemic began (I didn't look that far into the records) which would indicate Marvel is still reigning supreme. Black Widow's box office performance is less about the MCU being in decline and more about movie theatres in general being on life support.

Yeah, the landscape of the market has changed.

I don't think so. It's just a case of a weak movie. People didn't lose interest after Endgame if 'Spiderman Far from Home' is anything to go by. Yes, the end will come one day but not anytime soon.

But I thought it was a good movie plus it stars Black Widow who is popular and a Phase 1 character to boot. If this movie has issues I can only thing of the ones The Eternals and Shang Chi might have. It's possible only Spiderman and maybe Doctor Strange will come close to old days success.

one data point in strange times is not enough information to make any determination about the health of the MCU. I will say that Black Widow, being a prequel, isn't required viewing for the next movie in the series thus people will have no issue waiting to see it.

But also with Black Widow, she's been dead for years and her "momentum" probably died with her. Eternals and Shang Chi are fresher and newer and could go in any direction in terms of acceptance. Eternals could be the next Guardians, who knows.

I was entertained by it so I would call it good but in the grand scheme of things it's a bit meh. I wasn't blown away by ' Captain Marvel' also but it felt necessary to view. I'm biased, I see Marvel movies like Game of Thrones episodes, you need to see them to understand the bigger picture. Here 'Black Widow' added nothing to the Marvel Universe and came off as a little implausible.

I loved the film but I always enjoy a good Honest Trailers ribbing (HISHE, too) and they're pretty on spot with the flaws of the film (most of which, I don't mind).

Plus, I always love a good sick burn on Hawkeye.

I expect to see Red Guardian and Yelena back in future movies, they were both great fun. But there won't be any more Black Widow movies starring Yelena unless she is a big hit in other movies.

Which is okay. Some of these phase 1 characters are so beloved that you can't just flip another actor in expect the same impact. Their is plenty of untapped new characters to explore especially now they have access to the X-Men and Fantastic 4. It's okay for the new Iron Man, Captain America or Black Widow to be side characters or tv show stars. I know their is talk of doing a new Captain America movie but I think that is a mistake. He works best right now on tv with the Winter Soldier. With secondary roles in movies because it's just to hard to replace original Cap so soon. That was the mistake Sony did with rushing to get a new Spiderman to soon after Toby McGuire.

Regarding the box office numbers, I think they are pretty damn impressive considering we are still in the middle of a pandemic. I would read these numbers in that all the fanboys and anybody who wanted to brave a public theatre to see BW went during the opening weekend. A large number of people are not returning to the theatre yet.

I should think the raging success of the MCU shows on Disney+ proves that people are not tired of the MCU at all. People just don't want to go to the theatres these days, and I can't really blame them all things considered. Though, that said, an MCU movie still pulled in the largest single weekend gross of 2021, which also proves people aren't sick of the MCU yet.

People who think the MCU is dying are the same people who tell us that Star Trek Discovery is going to be canceled every year, and they should be taken as seriously.

I would celebrate the day the MCU dies. However, since I have not purchase my "Ding Dong the MCU" banner yet I would say that rumors of its death are greatly exaggerated.

True--it didn't add anything to the larger MCU picture--or anything that audiences really needed to see where Black Widow was concerned. In other words, it was a MCU story that did not need to be told.
