Spoilers Black Lightning - Season 1

I thought it was a solid first episode. I just hope that it's not filled to the brim with the teen drama of the sisters but it is CW so it probably will.

Not only is this obviously different from a typical CW show, but I don't understand it when people associate The CW with "teen drama." Most CW shows have leads in their 20s and 30s. The only "teen" regular in any of the Berlanti/CW superhero shows before now was Thea Queen, who turned 18 halfway through the first season. Wally West was maybe 19-20 when he was first introduced. The only current significant under-20 characters in the Arrowverse shows are Supergirl's Ruby Arias, who's maybe around 13 (her actress's age), and Oliver Queen's son William, who's 10. As for the rest of The CW's lineup, I'm pretty sure Riverdale and The 100 are the only ones centered on characters who are supposed to be adolescent, although The 100 is doing a time jump this season so the characters will all be in their 20s now.

My CW info is admittedly out of date. I haven't watched the network regularly in probably seven years.

That is possibly one of the most arrogant, ignorant, and outright wrong statements one could post on this message board.
I'm not trying to start a fight, I just honestly don't understand people can have a problem with that stuff, or could even consider the other side of things like feminism, gay rights, or civil rights for minorities. The fact that there could be any opposition to things like that is one of things I find the most confusing about modern society.
I honestly didn't even think anyone would even have a problem with what I said.

I liked the first episode a good deal. The lead is very good, and I'm interested to see where the show goes with the villain. BL's daughters aren't great, but they're not terrible and its only the first episode (the youngest seems like she's going to be a big source of teen drama, though). Overall this was a very good premiere, and I'm glad that CW has a good superhero show again.

Some people don’t want their false sense of superiority taken away. Everything was given to them and now others are getting that same treatment and they don’t think that’s fair. They want to have more, just like a spoiled child. But there are less and less of them, one day there won’t be any of them. Hopefully most will grow up or just realize it’s no more acceptable than yelling racial slurs in public.

Liked the show, can’t wait to see more. The less superheroes who aren’t white men, the better.

Solid first episode. I've never followed Black Lightning so I'm not steeped in his lore, support cast so whatever changes they make, plan to make will go past me.
While watching it my wife come through the room and snaps a pic of BL. I ask her what that was about and she says, "Thats the Mayor from Heart of Dixie! He's a superhero now! I've got to tell Brandy"

The costume looks a bit too professional cosplay vs other CW costumes but that can be tweaked. They've been known to do that as the shows continue.

Damn, I can't believe forgot about them, it's especially sad since I love LoT.

Also Miss Martian on Supergirl. And Misty Knight, arguably.

Also two Power Rangers in recent seasons, Shelby from Dino Charge and Hayley from Ninja Steel.

Forgot about Miss Martian too, and I didn't really think of Misty Knight as a superhero since she's pretty much just a normal cop so far.

OK, I have to ask what would be the reasonable other side of those kind of issues other than people being sexist, racist, or homophobic? Just to make it clear, I don't want to start a fight, I'm just honestly curious. I promise I won't argue.
If a mod wants to just stop this now I understand.

The show did alright in the ratings, biggest premiere on the CW since Legends. :techman:

Key:

Airing at 9 p.m., “Black Lightning” drew a 0.8 rating in adults 18-49 and 2.3 million viewers

“This Is Us” (2.5, 9.8 million) was even and was the top-rated and most-watched show of the night.

This is what I was talking about early in the thread: perhaps Black Lightning will survive with its share, but with the trend of most TV series slowly dropping in ratings as a season wears on, it might have been wise to place this on another night, ad not right up against the unavoidable, seemingly unbeatable This Is Us.

I think the idea was to pair it up with The Flash.

Makes sense, to pair their newest superhero show up with their highest-rated one. Also, you've got kind of a lightning theme going there between them. Although there's kind of a tonal mismatch, putting the lightest, fluffiest DC show right before the most grounded and serious one.

Hmmm. Is The Flash really the lightest and fluffiest? I'd lean toward Legends, myself. Granted, Flash did start off this season with a new and refreshingly comedic tone, but that has already fallen off some since the whole DeVoe thing geared up in earnest. Meanwhile, Legends has been leaning hard and delightfully into its own absurdity for a couple of years now.
