Birth of the Federation II

ok i have updated the gui test, it has a very nifty feature in it, i am currently working on implementing the shiplist and the tech tree.
@vance, you mentioned that no tech tree had never been mentioned, it has. look in the forums, not general chat, it is a sticky near the top, along with the shiplist and the minor race list. playable races have also been mentioned, it will be the feds, the cards, the klings, the roms, and the dominon. i am thinking of adding the borg also.
map size, a small grid (as you will see if you dl the testgui) is 32x32 squares, i can make it as big as i want to, as in massive. and yes i am useing a scripting engine to make modding easier.

I take back my comment on armada fleet about it not being near completion and look forward to a release date.

Well, I have to admit that the first gui test was little bit disappointing. I expected to see little bit more and I'm glad to see that progress is being made. The second gui test looks better, and I like the new map rotation. I have tried to change the resolution and this is the result. And after moving the cursor over the 'Quit game' button the game quits to windows without my actually clicking on the button. Otherwise it looks quite nice, keep up the good work.

set your screen res before launching, i know why the test quits when you hover over the quit button, i put the wrong bit of syntax in there.

That´s great news! I won´t pester you about a release date; i am sure you are tired of being asked that. Just keep us abreast of all the goings on.

I know i can check out the site, but i am too lazy. :p
 
Without being a pset, is there any short demo to play or even short movie? I have not had the time to go the site in a while.

whats a pset? as for a demo not yet, i am getting as much as i can done so i can get one out, by a movie do you mean a movie of the game in action or like an intro movie?

I think either would be useful, if it did not delay your efforts significantly.
 
i am hoping to get a small demo of the 3d combat out for the weekend, this is not a hard promise, i am trying out a lot of different stuff so that most of the combat can be seen, in botf the camera always seems to foolow a certain ship, and if it was on evade you`d miss most of the fighting, so i am trying out different camera angles to figure which will be best, at the moment i am thinking of going with the same type as i have for the galactic map, so when combat is initiated you can zoom in and out, and rotate the whole battle field. now as i said, i dunno if i`ll have it ready for this weekend, but definatly within a forthnight i`ll have the combat demo ready to go. i will post once it`s ready for dl.

There are many public domain meshes in *.3ds format located, some of which you might find fitting for your project.

As for the ships in the thread posted earlier: I've been modding and doing 3d-meshes and textures for years now and your ships seem to look a little dated (texture and mesh-wise, that is).
I further suggest you check out the BCU (Bridge Commander Universe: here) Forums and post a request for some models you need, there. I'm sure that if you explain your case many modellers would be happy to contribute their ships to your projects, which would save you a great deal of time.

i would like to say sorry to all who have been waiting on this, due to some personal crap i got kinda drunk for a few weeks, combat demo not going to happen soon sorry more code than i had thought, am doing my best at the moment so look for a future update fairly soon,

Well, I was starting to get worried, but I'm happy there is news that work on the game continues. Keep it up! :thumbsup:
 
As long as we get some updates on its progress, then that is fine by me. If I can ask, how much code is there, so far, and what do think that final amount is likely to be?
