Birth of the Federation II

Actually, the site experienced a sudden spurt of posting, so it may not be entirely dead. He may just be focussing on developing it at the moment, now he's the lead.

Hunt!!!

GUI, models.. etc.. What abuot the fargin' CORE ENGINE?

Why is this game being worked on IN REVERSE. How are you handling maps? How about your tech-trees? Diplomatic model? Etc?

Why am I seeing a 'GUI page' and a 'starship model' for this thing at this point ... NEITHER should be getting much attention right now.

OY.

fine i won`t bother to post again, or show any thing which is being worked on, i did this to show people what the ui would like, not to get abuse. screw it.

And I'm hitting hard because I'm a professional game developer. I know how these things work. A UI mockup takes a couple of hours to do a 'pro' job - that's it. 3D models are, literally, a dime-a-dozen online.

Both of which are absolutely meaningless in the initial phases of a game design. 3D renderers change, and UI needs will change depending on what you do with the game engine itself.

I want to know about the game. I want to know about those niggling detalis such as 'how big of star-maps are you going to be using'? 'how many powers are you shooting for', or 'are you using scripting engines to make the game more easily moddable'? Are you taking any lessons from CIV IV, Master of Orion II? What's the tech tree going to be like?

Again, none of these qustions have ever been answered, and I scoured that site. Since you're response to that question is 'I don't want to take abuse, and I'm leaving!', I have to seriously think that your group has done shit-all on the actual game.

I would be delighted to be proven wrong, though, so please do.

Edit - Typo

Seems to me like you should offer your services

This is someone elses project and they can manage it however they want

If you were the Publisher I could see your viewpoints but the last I checked this was by Fans for fans... no cash fronted for development and free to all when released

Cut the guy some slack he's doing it because he wants to... either help wait with the rest of us or make your own engine and do a BOTF 2 because you want to!

Plus he inherited control of the project from someelse who seems to have given up at the last minute according to all accounts anyway.... so as I've always said

If the game comes out that would be great!!! if not oh well it goes to the failed botf 2 project pile!

Time will tell

If you can help the guy go to the sight and offer to help finsih this thing instead of tearing it down...

In the end I would rather see a game finished earlier than one that is delayed because the guy is always posting teaser updates...

Jigalypuff just drop a line to us every week or two and just say.... progress continues... that's it!!

Good luck to the project!!

Trouble, with projects like this, people get burned out completely before things get very far. I could do it - but I would have to run it, and I would have to ditch other projects to do it.

I would also solicit some funding for professional tools and hosting while the project continues. That means being very accountable and open to those who give that kind of support, and I better damn well have results to show.

True, but I'm just saying 'Are we sure it's not there already'? I want to know if it's really done - if I SHOULD invest time, money, effort, etc, into a project like this - or, you know, look at my own, etc...

And, with every failed BOTF2 'fan project' out there, that means future support for any OTHER 'fan project' dips just that bit lower. That already effects me.

There have been results with what they have had to use... have you not checked the official site...

What gives you the right to say its already there. Its not... There ate personal reasons as to why the original developer had to give the game up. Infact from what I know the coding is coming along quite well, the images of ships were just to wet anticipation...

(dont most games release screen shots LONG before the game engine is finished (ok yeah mebbi beta but)...)
