Big Brother USA - 12. Season Commentary Thread

And I really don't understand the problems Regan had with Rachel as it seemed she wasn't clashing much, at least not so obviously, with anyone else in the house. I partly think that Regan's "sexuality was threatened by her" which angered him or it's more likely the two of them just happened to have personalities that clashed heavily. They both could've done a lot of good just by shutting up and leaving the other alone, it seemed that at times they'd both go out of their way to piss the other off but Regan's continuing to harp on Rachel after she left the house ("OMG! They cloned Rachel and she's going to come in here and make our lives miserable!" he says, paraphrased, in the DR interviews) I think says a lot about him.

I get why Ragan felt the way he did, just because Rachel annoyed and pissed me off to no end, and I didn't even have to live with her. Their fights kind of make it look like a more isolated incident, but really the anger had been building in Ragan for quite some time. Besides Rachel being an inappropriate and irritating alcoholic who never shut up about Vegas, she was constantly being rude to people and starting fights "just for good TV" as she would say. Later she would go apologize as if nothing had happened. I think the thing that irritated me the most, watching Rachel on After Dark and reading everything that happened on the feeds, was the immaturity. She would not for a second admit that she could be wrong about anything. She was truly delusional - something would happen that pissed off other people, and if anyone brought it up she would say, "what? That never happened! You're a liar!" After this happening several times it was like, what reality is this person living in??? These things are on tape yet she vehemently denies that they occured, even in the diary room. Ragan was spot on when he said that everything about her was fake, and that she acted out for negative attention. And really, Ragan DID try very hard to avoid her at all costs, but Rachel would come back because she had to have the last word in every argument. I'm definitely on Ragan's side in this one. The other houseguests also couldn't stand Rachel for the same reasons, but they were better able to stuff it down and focus on the game. Ragan couldn't really hold it in any longer and I don't blame him.

You could argue that Regan couldn't let her have the last word himself. He could've prevented a lot of argument by just letting her get the last words in, saying "Maybe you're right." and then dropping it.

^I would say that kind of scenario actually did happen several times, but of course they aren't going to show that on TV, only the big yelling matches. I think before Rachel left the house he was better able to restrain himself, but when she came back in for 24 hours it was like all bets were off.

I actually think Rachel would have done a lot better in a different season. The houseguests even talked about this, she would have fared better in season 9 (the winter season with love matches). That cast was more her style - liked to party, drink, and act crazy every night. I think she would have fit in better with them. This season everyone was a bit more mature than that, they were more subdued and never truly lost control of their inhibitions. This clashed with Rachel's crazy character. I suppose it made good TV but it meant that a lot of them didn't get along with her.

^ Which castaway was that?

I knew I had mixed up James' gay porn escapade in the time line.

For those who don't know, the winner of that season, Adam, apparently used his winnings to buy drugs and begin dealing, while Matt was arrested for using his baby's momma as a punching bag.

It's been a decent season, it's been great to share it with you all! Finale night comments!

- Did we really need a re-cap to start the show and waste time? The back and forth was alright, but I’d rather have had more of a reunion show at the end.
- Lane is worried about beating Hayden? He couldn’t be Enzo either. He’s playing for $50,000.
- Enzo’s whining about creating the Brigade and not getting to the final two? Win a competition! It’s all on you!
- More mindless Julie questions. In the future, they need to ask hard-hitting questions, not “Oh, well what are you going to miss in the house?” Those questions were fine on Season 1 when it was more of a social experiment than a reality show, but now with people voting each other out, people’s feelings being extremely hurt and strategy that’s cutthroat, her questions should reflect that.
- Rachel saying people aren’t smart? Wow, pot calling the kettle black.
- Again, more wasted seconds. Do we need a shot of them all walking out and sitting down?
- Rachel really wants to think she’s important, doesn’t she?
- Brendon is back to being Rachel’s puppy. Did they really need their own loveseat in the jury deliberations?
- Enzo getting third place was expected, setting up probably the hardest final two to call in a while.
- “Did it sting?” “No of course not Julie, I am not pissed that the guy who told he was going to take me and give me at least $50,000 voted me out.”
- People cheered for Rachel? Ugh.
- Scripted questions? Jeez, way to kill any spontaneity.
- “Who would you like to see in the finals?” Wow, what a wasted question.
- “Did you think it was going to be easy questions?” No, I thought they were actually going to be intelligent.
- So it’s 10:15 and they still haven’t had the vote. Why can’t Big Brother get the Survivor treatment and have a three-hour finale on a Sunday? If not, why can’t they trim the fat a little. I for one want to see more reunion afterwards then dragging it out beforehand trying to build suspense.
- Matt is definitely a character. I would’ve liked him, but I just can’t get past the wife thing.
- This isn’t a jury; this is a Hayden/Lane fan club!
- After suffering through Rachel, I think I would’ve cheered for Monet all season based on the fact I like that she hates Rachel.
- Good on Kristen’s boyfriend for dumping her. Seriously, she’s totally in the wrong on this one.
- Lane seriously can’t go through life being as dumb as he seems.
- Britney’s eyes during the whole Brenchel conversation were priceless. Speaking of which, did we need two questions?
- Is there really a point in making to the end? Seems like everyone gets money.
- What shitty editing. The final key and we don’t even see her reveal it.
- Hayden did deserve to win. He played the perfect the mix of competition winning and social.
- I love how rushed Britney winning America’s choice was. Maybe if they trimmed up the rest of the episode, she could’ve gotten more time.

I loved Julie constantly yelling for Hayden to leave the damn house after he won.

Brittney's eye-roll during the Brachel conversation was awesome. I part love her and part hate her.

I really do wonder sometimes how Lane manages to get out of bed in the mornings without getting a concussion.

Good job for the winner, as I've said before anyone of the final 3/4 could've won and I would've been happy. I really do like Enzo he seems like a genuine, nice, and funny guy as does Lane and Hayden. Lane seems like someone I could really hang out with.

The Hobbit guy is just a douche and should be throttled with the whole wife lie.

The two-hour finale really does seem too padded. It really does need to be more like Survivor and have time dedicated to finishing the game and then a reunion show. All of the recap-stuff in the beginning was just redundant considering we just had a recap show the other night and, well, we've been watching the whole damn season! But, good on the winners of the various prizes.

I also found it funny that Monique (?) pretty much didn't recant her comments re:Rachel and all-but re-affirmed them.

I was laughing during the final "HOH" Comp. Hayden was sitting there with an overly intense look on his face. Looked like a combination of him having a seizure and being constipated.

^Great Lane-ism.

All in all, I'm happy with Hayden winning. I like him. I was happy with either him or Lane winning, didn't want Enzo to win...I kind of liked him at first but he thoroughly pissed me off along the way with his ego/attitude. Hayden really deserved it, especially with how well he did in challenges. And ultimately, I think he is a good guy.

Brittney rolling her eyes when Rachel was talking was AWESOME!! I love her so much! I'm glad she won the fan favorite prize. I still think...give it time...she and Lane will end up together. I remember that her mom didn't seem to mind the idea...wonder what that says about the fiance?

Matt, well, Matt's disgusting. The fact that he still doesn't really think he did anything wrong with the lie speaks volumes. How he only thinks it was a bad idea because it didn't work. What an ass!

I gotta admit, I love Monet not taking back the things she said about Rachel. I'm a big fan of apologizing and making things right but in that moment, she meant what she said, so, why should she take it back?

As far as Kristen, yeah, she deserved to be dumped by her boyfriend but it wasn't like they were engaged or something, they'd only been together a few months. And, she possibly could've meant what she said before going into the house (that she wanted to stay together), but things happen, people are people. I'm not saying what she did was right but I can imagine in that situation, when you're cut off from everything you know, things can get weird and/or tempting.

No, her cheating on her boyfriend in the house makes her a bitch. I don't care what the situation is. She was in a committed relationship. That someone better came along when she was away and she decides to shrug off the first guy speaks volumes about her.

I guess I'm one of the only people who isn't that bothered by Matt's lie. If he had come clean to me about it in the jury house I would have felt happy that it wasn't true and amazed that he kept it up that long. Like he said in one interview, "it's not like I'm sticking people with diseased needles" or something close to that. Besides the friends whose feelings were hurt by Matt's dishonesty, lying about his wife having a disease hurts no one. I'm actually more concerned about the other lies he told in the house that were completely pointless. Such as when he lied about his birthday and they had a whole party for him in the house even though it was nowhere near his birthday. Now, why the hell would someone lie about that?! It's just bizarre and makes me question his sanity.

His lie about his wife having cancer is kind of dirty but it's hardly the worst thing ever. When Johnny Fairplay did something similar (lied to fellow Survivor castaways that his grandmother had died while he was on the show) he was hailed for doing it, almost beloved and he won it over by saying "His grandma's at home right now watching Jeopardy."

But I guess JFP's slightly jokey way of going about it wins him some points, Matt was a little less apologetic about how he did it. I also kind of wonder why he picked some crazy, hard to pronounce disease instead of just saying something like "cancer." (Also it begs the question on why he would go on the show anyway with his wife on her sickbed.) I dunno, the way Matt did it, played it out, and how unapologetic he was about it afterwards I think is what makes him "worse" for pulling this stunt than others who've done similar (or worse) in other shows.

He's still a little creepy troll.

Or Russell emptying the water and throwing other people's clothes into the fire while they slept. It's hardly the worst lie that's been told in reality tv, or even in this program.

He's still a little creepy troll.

You'd know.
