Big Brother 24

@Timewalker This is what Dyre Fest is parodying:

The further I get into this season, the more baffled I'm becoming with regards to how serious the diehard BB fandom community seems to treat the show; come on, people, it's a combination of 3 Nickelodeon kid's/all-ages shows, a comedy prank show, and Daytime TV talk, so lighten up about it and have fun with the ridiculousness.

I see it as comfy Survivor. I like the social gameplay aspects, no reason not to have a little comic relief and silliness. I just don't like it when they edit it to make it overly melodramatic and catty. I want the portrayal of the cast and their relationships to be balanced and faithful.

Kyle's betrayal is a lot better for Michael than it is for him. Unless you think that he might have been the #4 guy for Monte and Joseph.

This is why I loved the first season of Survivor. The older woman who brought a ukulele as her luxury item so they could have music, Greg with his coconut phone, showing the castaways just getting to know each other and horse around a bit and have a real conversation that has nothing to do with the Game... that was fun to watch. Now all they show is game talk, and maybe one or two things to set a "narrative" for each person, putting them in a category of a "character type".

Of course those early impressions can fool the audience as the numbers shrink.

As for making Big Brother fun... I miss James and his hide-and-scare-the-crap-out-of-people. He was one of the people I wished would win.

I realized that I'd forgotten the names of most of the Cookout members. I didn't recognize Tiffany without that mountain of gold plopped on her head. Note to Tiffany next time she appears to host a BB comp: Wear underclothing. We already had enough near-wardrobe malfunctions this season with Taylor (who seems to think that running around the house in her lacy lingerie is okay).

Interesting votes to come tonight. Only two in each group can actually vote, with the HoH being the tiebreaker. So outside it's Turner and Alyssa who can vote, and inside it's Brittany and Taylor who can vote. For Turner's sake (and my ears' sake) I sincerely hope they get rid of Jasmine.

The show doesn't start for over an hour yet...

OMG, Julie is "prettier than pan-fried cornbread"?

WTF is Jasmine's obsession with food? Specifically, in connection with Julie Chen? Is this a common way of speaking in whatever place Jasmine is from, or is this just her creepy, bizarre mindset?

I don't suppose they could arrange for aliens to kidnap her from the jury house, so nobody would have to hear her high-pitched, squeaky voice ever again, screeching her bizarre, inappropriate metaphors?

Jazmine seems to be auditioning for a role in a Paula Deen biopic.

This makes the next week much more interesting. Michael might have gotten more than he bargained for turning the Leftovers against each other. And Terrance after weeks of looking like a non-entity absolutely nailed his HoH. “The After Party” could easily just take a shot at both Michael and Monte next week.

I didn’t like Joseph’s sanctimonious comments about loyalty. It’s a game dude.

I've tuned out. I'll keep an eye on things through various online sources, but I can't stand these people anymore.

Really? I think this is a slightly above average cast in terms of likability. The only one I really hated was Pooch, who left week 2, and the only other super annoying one was Jasmine, just evicted. Everyone else is somewhere on the spectrum from likable to neutral.

Joseph looked and sounded like he was crying. What a hypocrite.

They have to break up Kyle and Alyssa. And if they're smart about it, they also have to break up Michael and Brittany - not for being a showmance, obviously (she's married, he's engaged) - but because they're a committed duo who intend to be the Final Two.

Alyssa doesn't deserve to win, and honestly, neither does Brittany. Both have ridden their partner's coattails throughout the game, even if Brittany has won more than Alyssa. And if Alyssa should unimaginably make it to the finale and Taylor's on the jury... that's one vote she won't get (never come between Taylor and the trip she wanted).

At this point other than Michael I might be rooting for Terrance. And I might even be okay with Taylor winning just because ever since being the prime target at the beginning she's positioned herself to be nobody's target at all. I've never seen someone so high on the radar manage to get so successfully under it. But Monte and Taylor also have good claims to deserve to win. Only Kyle, Alyssa and Brittany really don't deserve ot.

There's just been too much unnecessary personal attacks on the feeds. Really, I'm pretty sure Michael, Brittany and Joseph were the only ones who didn't get involved in that in some way.

Kyle and Alyssa as a showmance are boring. He really has no idea what the hell he is doing. She has absolutely zero personality.

Jasmine and Terrance will parrot whatever line diary feeds them. It's painful to listen to Terrance think he's running the game when he has been in the dark for the majority of it.

I was a Taylor defender, but she has gotten incredibly catty and vindictive as well.

It's painful to get through an episode, let alone any feeds.

I can't speak for the feeds but most of the players seem perfectly reasonable on the show. Who is making those personal attacks toward who?

I have to ask how it's possible for you to have seen any of the feeds. You're in Canada, right? I tried Paramount + and not even the regular show is available for Canadian subscribers.

And I've noticed that Taylor's begun wearing more and more revealing outfits again. That seems to coincide with the worst displays of her Pageant Girl persona.

I didn't mind Terrence at first. I loathe him now.

I use two sites, http://www.hamsterwatch.com & https://www.mortystv.com/bb/ to keep up to date with them. I realized after finally getting to see After Dark during Big Brother 12, which I think was the only season that it was on in Canada, that the edited version on television was usually very different from what was actually happening. These sites definitely have their opinions, but I've found their reporting to be fairly balanced.

That being said, I've visited those sites less and less as the season has gone on. My interest is just not there.

I saw today’s episode on mute at a sports bar because there was literally no sports on tonight. So I know what happened but not why.

But it seems like the plan is to back door Michael. Which is probably the rational move for him.

I'm struggling not to let discussion about this season sour me on the show as a whole right now because a narrative of Kyle being a racist has come up elsewhere and has led to the use of some terminology that is incendiary, and when I reasonably asked that people tone down the rhetoric and incendiary terminology because it wasn't leading to anything productive and said that I'd be bowing out of discussions otherwise, I essentially got called out for 'ignoring' Kyle's behavior and told to go ahead and leave the discussions because I wasn't piling on the outrage.

Has Kyle done anything more to suggest he’s racist on the feeds besides speculate about a cookout?

Since I don't watch the feeds, I don't know, but apparently so if you believe the tenor of the conversations that I got yelled at for politely asking people to tone down and a couple of Twitter trends - KKKyle (yes, that stands for what you think it does) and #StopProtectingKyle - that are apparently being circulated.

WTF?

I've just reviewed the thread, and have not seen anything where any of us told you to leave the discussions.

On the issue of the Cookout/"cookout"... Of course it had to be on the minds of the casting director and the houseguests that if it happened once, it could happen again. I'm glad to see that this year's houseguests haven't done so - in either direction.

This didn't happen here, but on another board that I was using to discuss the season.

I tried to make that clear, but apparently I didn't make it clear enough, and apologize if anybody else besides you thought I was talking about them.
