Big Brother 19

Did Cody just call *other people* psychopaths?

You can probably find thorough recaps online.

The plan was pretty straightforward, nominate Mark and Elena, backdoor Cody. Kevin was talking to Cody and made people uncomfortable so they called him in to tell him he shouldn't be doing that. For temptation challenge they wanted to make sure Cody didn't win but also make sure he didn't come in last so they could stop him from competing in veto. They called for volunteers to throw the competition and Matt volunteered. They started hearing sound effects in the house like a baby crying, a dog barking, and the competition was to remember which room they were in when the sound played. Cody tried to throw it to get in last but accidentally got one right, so Mark came in first and Matt came in last. Mark has started calling out that Paul is controlling the house. Jason suggested Paul as a pawn, and he pretended to be cool with it but he wasn't. Elena asked Cody if he'd veto her if he won the veto and he did it in front of Christmas so there was a fight where Christmas called out Mark and Elena for working with Cody and flip flopping.

Alex nominated Elena and Jason, so Elena, Jason, and Matt are on the block. Alex expressed in HoH room that although her target is Cody she wouldn't mind if Elena or Matt went home either because she wants to break up showmances. If I'm Matt right now, I'm terrified of Cody winning HoH and vetoing Elena.

Well, Elena sure put a target on herself. Breaking a deal less than 2 minutes after making it? Wow.

And Cody has a 5-year-old kid? Double wow. So there are three people on the planet at whom he doesn't just stand there brushing his teeth and looking cross-eyed (hopefully he doesn't do it to the kid when she acts up).

Gotta wonder how many of those hot dogs actually got eaten. What a nasty punishment for Alex.

That was a predictable day.

So, we have Alex, Josh and Jason who are slavishly loyal to Paul and the adoptive mother of Josh makes 5 out of 9.

Matt and Raven can't be dumb enough to think they aren't right after Mark, and they can probably pull in Kevin if they make a strong showing. I hope somebody on that side wins HoH just to throw a little more doubt into the season. So far Paul might be playing the second best BB game of all time behind only Derrick.

But I guess for me to really place him at that level, he needs to scheme off the block even when his enemies are in power.

Yay, Cody is gone. Yay, Elena is gone. I'm going to make a really shallow comment: the way she does her makeup, she looks like a clown.

Kevin needs a haircut.

So Derrick shows up for a clip show that turns out to be relevant to the upcoming HoH competition. At least that's a good reason for having a clip show.

Re Jessica and her vocabulary deficit: Nobody could seriously be that stupid. Please tell me she was trolling the rest of them.

The next time Josh sneers at Mark for being a crybaby, he needs to look in a mirror.

Well, that was an interesting development. Yet more temptations... and what a shame it took Paul throwing the competition in a pretty blatant way for Christmas to get HoH.

Nice to see that Mark kept his word to Paul. I'd forgotten about that friendship bracelet thing. It probably won't save him, though, unless something weird happens.

Alex needs to watch her attitude, though. All those "stop asking questions" sounds like Jessica 2.0.

Mark has a faint glimmer of hope in that he is no longer in a numerical power. If he can get the house focused on couples he can slide into an alliance.

What time zone are you in, if you don't mind saying?

It's only 6:30 pm here. The show won't start for me for another 2.5 hours.

2.5 hours later...

WTF is CBS thinking, insulting people like that? Seriously, calling Alex a hooker? That's not something that is ever said in fun. That's malicious.

It's a roast, insulting each other in fun. I like the Zingbot segment and the houseguests look forward to it.

Sure 'Hooker' is said in fun. On a comedy central special. Making fun of a career ending injury honestly bothered me more. Out of everyone it felt like Raven was the most bothered, not Alex.

I'm in EST.

There's a difference between mocking someone's makeup (she appeared not to understand that it's her makeup that was being mocked; she and Elena both put on waaay too much, so they look like clowns) and suggesting that a woman is a prostitute.

Alex's face seemed pretty red for someone who wasn't bothered, but of course she's the only one who can say definitively whether or not she was truly bothered.

And yeah, it was really tacky to go after Christmas like that. And would they fix that damn squeaky wheeled thing she uses to get around on? Between the "jingle bells" effect and that squeaking thing, I'm annoyed - for things that aren't her fault.

Of course I'm now going to be a complete hypocrite and say that I'd have loved to see what it would have dished out to Cody and Jessica and Elena.

So I'm glad all the unlikable people are gone.

But is this season just going to be the "People do what Paul wants" show? So far Paul is far and away the best player, but somebody please TRY to challenge him. Make the outcome a little bit in question! All the people who are even trying had too poor social games to work with anyone and went away already.

Matt and Raven just roll over and say "Sure I'll pawn just please don't evict me." Josh and Christmas talk about doing their own thing then do what Paul wants. Alex says she's playing her own games then does what Paul wants. PLEASE. Let there be a week in the house where the result is not obvious far in advance.

I feel like I'm watching the Big Brother version of Boston Rob's last season of Survivor.

I think I'm rooting for Matt or Kevin in HoH just because, for once, I won't know exactly what they're going to do.

Speaking of Kevin, you know who's never been nominated yet? Kevin. He's a total Steve, I think he's the second most likely to win.

If I were to rank players in likelihood to win right now:
1. Paul
2. Kevin
3. Alex
(Big gap)
4. Christmas
5. Matt
6. Jason
(Big gap)
7. Raven
8. Jsoh

There have been other BB/Survivor seasons where one person dominated throughout. As I mentioned before, I really didn't like Paul last time. This time I hope he wins, since he's played a hell of a social game, as well as being an excellent competitor. He's not so downright weird this time.

I'm honestly surprised that Kevin has lasted this long. People in his age demographic are normally out within the first 2-3 weeks. But I have to admit that I've been impressed with how he's reached out to the younger players in a surrogate-dad/mentor kind of way, and hasn't put on false airs. He's played a common-sense game and hasn't angered people so much that they hate him. I tend to forget he's there sometimes.

With the competitions where the houseguests are blasted with water, colored chemicals, etc., why aren't they given goggles to protect their eyes? It's insane, how much crap gets literally thrown at them, with no regard for the dangers of accidentally blinding someone - particularly when they have no idea what to expect.

There've been seasons where one player dominated but at least there were some points where people tried to fight back. It's rare that everybody just rolls over for one person the whole game and when it happens it's usually 'one veteran' seasons.

Older people tend to do okay on BB. The year Dan won, the older guy was 3rd place. What's her name Renny was 5th. Nobody really targets the older people until they antagonize someone because they're really unthreatening.

Paul needs to work on his acting skills. His throwing of the HoH competition was so obviously faked.

So now we learn that Raven can't speak properly half the time and she's a compulsive liar, as well as someone who wears makeup to look like a clown.

Yikes. Please get her out of there.

And Kevin and Jason: Shut up. Both of you. Now.

I'm still cheering for Paul to win.

And on finale night, I can't wait to see everyone else's reactions when they find out that it was Kevin taking the $25,000 that triggered Paul's entry into the house.

What I notice is missing from the episodes is how much the other houseguests dislike Kevin. That is entirely Paul's doing. Starting about three weeks ago, Paul seemed to decide that Kevin would be the next person he wanted to make a target. He started pointing out how "shady" Kevin was acting, telling other people that Kevin is a liar, etc. They ate it right up, and it's at the point now where they will sit around trash talking him for hours, and even question whether or not he really has kids.

I'm thinking that tomorrow's episode might show at least some of this.

Jason won the veto, and they (meaning Paul, Alex, Christmas, and Josh) pushed REALLY hard to have Jason take Raven down and put up Kevin instead, so they could vote Kevin out. I think Paul was pushing it so hard because Kevin is the only person besides himself that is not in a pair, so he's a bit of a wild card. With Kevin out of the way, Alex/Jason and Raven/Matt will continue to go after each other. Thankfully, Jason stuck to his guns and did not use the veto.

Kevin is my favorite, and has been since the beginning, so I'm hoping he can go far. I question his ability to win, even if he makes it final 2, because Paul has tainted the future jury members against him so much that I don't think they can overlook it.
