Big Brother 19

Well, for someone with a pacemaker and all this other crap going on, she's remarkably free of scars left over from surgery. I know medical advances have made surgeries a lot less intrusive nowadays (ie. you can't see my scars unless you know where to look, and even I've forgotten two of them), but then mine aren't due to either a pacemaker or knee surgery.

I think it's safe to say that she saw everyone fussing over Christmas and decided to invent an attention-getter so they would fuss over her. But she overplayed it (a lot!) and now everyone just rolls their eyes.

What's amazing about this season is how every week the average likability of the cast has steadily increased. We started out with some of the least likable people ever then the likable people kept systematically knocking out the unlikable ones.

At this point I would be okay with anyone but Josh winning.

Although this season is still feeling like 'The story of Paul wins' the same way it felt that way with Derrick.

I wrote the following paragraphs as I watched tonight's episode:

Did I read that right? Did Kevin refer to Alex as a "fat little bitch"??? He just lost any regard I had for him.

Wow, Jason is a sore loser. At first I thought he was going to walk right past Julie and out the door. And Josh's message just set things up for more Bitter Jury Syndrome.

What is with this silly cartwheel stuff? How old is Raven, 8? And who cares about her stories? Boo-hoo-hoo...

Celebrity Big Brother? Whee.

There's nothing wrong with "the story of Paul wins." He deserves to win, with the social game he's played. He knew when to try to win a competition and when not to win, and has managed to manipulate everyone without being obnoxious. He's won just enough HoH/veto comps to be considered credible in that respect.

I don't want Kevin or Josh to win. Kevin's a creep and Josh is a crybaby. If Paul gets blindsided, I'd be okay with Alex winning. Christmas, not so much. She hasn't done enough to earn it, although I'm sure she would have if she'd been able to compete more. I'm just afraid that if the finale turns out to be Paul and Christmas, the votes might go to Christmas as pity votes or because people are bitter at having been manipulated.

Mind you, if the finale turns out to be Paul and Kevin that would work in Paul's favor, since neither of them had a buddy/significant other in the house, and Kevin hasn't done anything to earn the win.

Seasons where one player steamrolls through and wins are satisfying but not the most entertaining.

I think Alex and Christmas both played strong games. Christmas came in planning a physical game and successfully adjusted to a social game, plus she just seems like a nice person.

Didn't see the episode, Kevin really said that? Kevin did one thing well this season, keep his head down.

What's this about Celebrity Big Brother? I would have zero interest in that.

I've found Paul to be very entertaining this season. He's displayed Machiavellian skills... in a good way. The show improved immensely once he and his allies got the toxic people out (Dominique, Cody, Jessica, Mark, and Elena). I'm just really impressed with his social game this year, as opposed to his first season, when I really didn't like him. It's obvious that he learned from his past errors.

No argument about Alex - she's got credibility for both a strong physical and social game. Christmas, on the other hand... yeah, she's nice, not obnoxious, but honestly... she couldn't even win the non-physical competitions on her own merits. Her two HoHs were both handed to her, either by Paul directly (and obviously) throwing it or by Paul orchestrating her win. That alone is reason enough why she doesn't deserve to win.

Early in the episode, Kevin took exception to something Alex said or did - I think he was angry about how Alex voted in the eviction - and I'm sure the captioned dialogue said that he called her a "fat little bitch."

That's enough to kill any respect at all that I had for him.

What's this about Celebrity Big Brother? I would have zero interest in that.
Julie had a "big announcement" at the end of the episode. There's going to be a winter season in addition to a summer season next year, and the winter one is with celebrities. I might watch the first episode out of curiosity, but it would have to be a lineup of people I'm actually familiar with and like, to be interested in. Since there's not much I watch on network TV anymore, I rather doubt it would hold my interest.

Oh, and there's going to be two evictions next week - on Wednesday and Thursday.

I would expect Celebrity Big Brother to have a lower standard of Celebrity than Celebrity Apprentice. Remember this is asking people to commit three months of their lives. So it's going to be people who haven't found a lot of work lately and they will pick people who are known for shamelessly acting out. Not only that, it's people with camera awareness who will act out intentionally to try to make better TV and have pretend fights just because in addition to the real ones.

Kevin should talk, he looks like Sean Penn stopped taking care of himself.

Given all the stuff Alex has said about Kevin behind his back, any comment he made should be a drop in the bucket compared to that.

If Kevin hadn't taken the money and Paul had not entered the game

They also don't know that Paul's presence in the house is due to Kevin taking the $25,000.

The majority of the HGs also pressed their buttons on the first day to take the $25,000, it's just that Kevin happened to press his first. So they can't blame him personally for Paul entering the house, since it would have happened anyway even if Kevin hadn't pressed his button.

Oh, did they? I don't remember that coming out in the televised episodes.

Oh, did they? I don't remember that coming out in the televised episodes.

It wasn't talked about, but part of the temptation was that when you pressed your button, your light would turn green or red. Kevin's turned green, and Cody, Ramses, Mark, Alex, Raven and Jason's lights turned red.

Alex started out as one of my favorites, but she's sadly been my least favorite for a few weeks now. She seemed like she was going to be strong, competitive, and out for blood. Unfortunately, she instead quickly deferred to Paul in all matters. Even during the double eviction, she said "this is for you, Jason!" then did not even nominate Christmas or Josh, who she believed played the biggest roles in him going home. Instead, she asked Paul what she should do and he said to nominate Kevin and Raven, so she did. Even after Paul then voted out Raven, when she wanted the HGs to vote out Kevin, she thinks Paul is 100% on her side. Every time that Jason expressed a doubt about Paul this season, she immediately shut it down, calling him an idiot and running straight to Paul to tell him. It has been very frustrating to watch her stifle gameplay and throw away the grand prize. She has actually said that Paul was put in the house to help them win, because he's played before and now wants to guide her and Jason to the finish line. She's a delusional disappointment.

A lot of people on other fan sites really hate Paul, and I definitely don't feel that strongly about it, but it has been a very boring season because of him. Many of the HGs seemed to want someone to swoop in and tell them how to play, and Paul has done just that. Good on him, but it's not very entertaining to watch. In fact, I find it very frustrating to watch because it means no exciting counter-moves. The best we got was Cody and Jessica, who I couldn't stand. Thankfully Josh has finally woken up and realizes what Paul's game is. Unfortunately, it's too late for him to do anything about it.

Basically, I have found this season very boring. I usually watch feeds as often as I get the chance, but this season I have gone days without even caring, and at one point I even forgot BB was still on. I'm ready for this season to be over (I was ready two months ago).

I'm not that excited about a celebrity version. I feel like that's jumping the shark a bit. The quality will of course depend greatly on the cast, but I am dubious. I do know that it's going to be a shortened season. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/big-brother-celebrity-edition-coming-cbs-1035940

I very much doubt I'd watch a celebrity version. I'm looking forward to Survivor later this month; any news on Amazing Race?

Otherwise, my only TV-related decision will be whether or not to subscribe to Space (for Doctor Who; I'm willing to give the new Doctor a month to impress me) or W (for Outlander, if it's not on Netflix). Since The Handmaid's Tale's second season won't be on until next year, I might as well drop my Bravo subscription until it comes back.

As for "DiscoTrek" (as some have nicknamed it)... meh. Not gonna bother.

I heard Amazing Race is a midseason replacement again, we'll probably get one spring season like last year.

Survivor's gimmick this year looks better than their usual gimmick. Looking forward to that.

The season hasn't been boring because of Paul, the season has been boring because this season had one smart person and 16 stupid people. If it weren't for Paul it would have been less predictable but also 100% less watchable because more of the bullies would have been in power for much longer.

Speaking of stupid people... Kevin and Josh are unraveling emotionally (more crybabyish than usual), but they're actually getting a glimmer of a realization that Paul really isn't in this to help them win; he's in it for himself to win.

If Kevin and Josh and Alex were to compare notes, I predict Paul would be evicted this week.

I'm guessing it was time or financial constraints that altered the comic book competitions?

It would be horribly unfair if Christmas didn't have medical clearance to compete in the final HoH competition (assuming she gets that far).

Isn't final HoH usually 3 phase, one physical, one memory, and one trivia?

Hopefully the memory one is non physical enough for her to compete.

The comic book comp this year seemed more expensive than the previous ones, I think they just fell in love with the idea of the trailer.

Paul has a real power, mind control.

That almost writes itself for next year. Paul is the bad guy and has the power of mind control.

I wouldn't call him evil, just charismatic. And that's interesting, since last time I basically saw him as an obnoxious hillbilly without the stereotypical accent.

I actually like this version of Paul - granted I wouldn't if I were one of his targets, but as a spectator I'm just sitting back mindcroggled at how easily he's manipulating these people.

At least so far. Paul needs to not be so overconfident in this last week, because I honestly think Josh is going to nominate him on Wednesday. Josh has finally found his brain, and will probably realize that it's the last chance he'll have to get rid of Paul before the finale.

I dunno about that. I think if Paul does not win HoH in the final three, nobody brings him.

He has no single ally close enough to bring him against their best interest like Derrick had Cody. Maybe he could get Alex to bring him over Christmas using the jury bitterness argument. But even that is a reach.

He also has huge final 4 risk if he does not either win HoH or veto. Sure, Alex or Kevin may be afraid of going into the final 3 with a pair, but the cash where Alex or Kevin is HoH and Josh or Christmas wins veto is a death sentence for him.

Oh, this will be such a bitter jury...

How can any of these people not realize that Paul didn't come back for them, and that he would want to win it for himself?

So anyway... I doubt Canadians will be allowed to vote on the "favorite" player, so who do you (plural you) think should win it?

I'd be okay with Alex winning it. She played a credible game overall, and was sociable enough.

Are those comic book covers posted anywhere? I didn't get a good look at them.

Didn't see the episode except last ten minutes. I wonder why Paul didn't try to get out Josh or Christmas. He's putting himself in a position where he is forced to win HoH, is he going for the "At least I was loyal to some people" card that worked for Mike? Then again I guess he would be in the same situation if he betrayed Josh and Christmas anyway. Kevin votes Christmas, Josh is out for revenge and won't bring Paul, Kevin knows Josh is less popular and won't bring Paul. And Paul probably also likes Christmas' injury as a final 3 member.

If Paul manages to convince either Josh or Christmas not to bring the other I'll be truly impressed.

The way the jury is now (they showed some footage of the jury house), everyone's mad at Paul, and Raven is still convinced that she and Matt were some kind of master manipulators and that Paul was actually loyal to them to the end.

At least Jason had a suitable amount of egg on his face for how he treated Alex at the end.

Cody actually walked out of the jury scenes at one point. He's really that arrogant, that because he doesn't have any more chance to win, he's just basically a prisoner there until he gets to go home.

And he's still got that dead-eyed, crosseyed stare, like nobody's home inside his head.
