Best place to get a DS9 uniform?

Tallis Rhul

So... the deal is I have a birthday coming up and plan on treating myself to a decent replica Star Trek uniform, and the DS9 grey-shouldered one is the one I'd like... so...

Does anyone know the best way to go about it? I have 2 options at the minute, one being to buy one online for about $300+ (which frankly I don't particularly fancy). The other is to download a pattern (I have a link on standby) and then take it to my local tailor's and get them to make it up for me.

Any suggestions?

Well, I went to a costume party last August where the theme was TV shows and movies - and I dressed up as Ezri Dax (mostly cause Trill are my favourite species, and I have short hair, not long like Jadzia).

With the help of my Mum and Sister (both of whom have sewing experience) I made the uniform jacket (and just wore it with black pants and boots that I already had) - it took... about a month I think?

It was actually quite fun to make (in a satisfying 'I made myself a Trek uniform' kind of way) :)

So I'd suggest getting it made, fabric doesn't cost that much (I don't remember it being overly expensive) - I have no idea how much a tailor would cost. If the price is reasonable, then go for it. Otherwise, if you have any sewing experience, or friends/family with sewing experience... it is a birthday present right? ;)

And nice black pants, and boots, aren't hard to find in regular stores!

Just make sure to get good measurements. I was constantly doing the Picard maneuver with my jacket (i.e. tugging it down) - it had a tendency to ride up! (Not in a revealing way, but in an annoying, not sitting right way).

Thanks, I'll go with that one. The tailors don't seem to be too bad, I've taken clothes to be fixed there before (I keep busting zips in various things for some reason :/), and there's a fabric store near to them! I'll get the results photographed and uploaded when I'm done!
