Best Lines - Janeway

Yeah that one made me laugh!

A classic...
Janeway: "Red alert!" ;)

Janeway (to 7): "You must comply!"

Janeway (to Q): "Not big enough!"

Ahhhh, love those short ones!

Janeway to B'Elanna at the end of "Persistence of Vision" and to a regenerating Seven in "Dark Frontier II" ... "Sweet dreams".

From "Alliances" in season 2.

Janeway: You can't have it both ways Commander. If you want to get in the mud with the Kazon you can't start complaining that you might get dirty.

And near the end of the same ep...

MABUS: The Kazon will be determined to seek revenge. How can this one ship hope to survive?
JANEWAY: Not by making deals with executioners. Energize.

Sometimes its not what she says, but how she says it.

From "Prototype" in season 2... after B'Elanna tells her she's agreed to work with the killer robots...

Janeway: (growling with displeasure) Lieutenant!

Hehe yeah! Nice ones :)

How about this one from Parallax:

Janeway: Sometimes you just have to punch your way through!

And this one always gives me goosebumps (from Time and Again):

Janeway: Our own rescue attempt...that's what sets it off!

From "The Haunting of Deck 12" Captain Janeway in a fight with an alien who's taken over the ship's systems and who's trying to get her to surrender.

JANEWAY : Like hell I will. I won't be your prisoner. You'll have to kill me.

I agree, that is a great line, and an easy way to get out of the "sir" business that Starfleet had used for years.

In honor of the Bride of Chaotica thread, I'd be remiss if I didn't include...

JANEWAY: I'm the Queen, remember?

I've revisited this thread, and am "shocked, shocked" that in 2 years we've failed to quote Janeway's introduction to the Queen from "Dark Frontier II".

QUEEN: We believed you would be an asset to us. We were wrong. You are weak.

JANEWAY: Don't listen to her, Seven. She's irrelevant. (To the queen) Call them off or I'll destroy you.

Or this exchange between Paris and Janeway on the Delta Flyer, from the same episode.

JANEWAY: Time for the bio-dampeners. Tom, hold our position. Target that chamber with full weapons. Stand by to fire on my command.

PARIS: Ma'am, won't you be down there?

JANEWAY: Do it.

Or this one between the EMH and the Captain, as they flee unimatrix Zero-one with Seven.

JANEWAY: Reroute power from life support.

EMH: Captain!

JANEWAY: I'd rather suffocate than vaporize. Do it!

Yup, I do like it when she whips out her trademarked command. When I write fan fic, I always have to remind myself to include at least one "Do It!"

I agree with the statement that it isn't always what she says but more often how she says it. Her voices can hit a note that's just below shrill but just above soprano and I love it every time it happens. Her "dramatic" voice is my favorite of all the captains because, especially later in the series, it doesn't sound "silly" the way other captains sometimes do (like Sisko shaking his jowls when he says "Battle stations.")

One of my favorite examples is from Shattered.

Janeway: If the temporal anomaly doesn't kill them something else will – the Borg, telepathic pitcher plants, macroviruses – the Delta Quadrant is a death trap!"

From "Future's End", a CLASSIC Janewayism!

Time travel. Ever since my first day in the job as a Starfleet Captain I swore I'd never let myself get caught in one of these god-forsaken paradoxes. The future is the past, the past is the future. It all gives me a headache.

YES!!! That's a great one. I'd feel the same way if I got caught in a temporal paradox. It's the same at the end of "Relativity" just before Janeway and Seven are about to get back to their time...

Janeway: "See you in the twenty fourth century."
Seven: "I look forward to it, or should I say, backward?"
Janeway: "Don't get started. "

How about this one from Equinox
Janeway: "I'll bring the croutons." I always thought it was cute how she keeps beating around the bush

From Someone to watch over me to Seven
Janeway: "That's not the point. This is a starship, not a nature preserve."

From The Disease (loved how pissed she was during this entire episode!
Janeway: "Bravo. Unfortunately, your recitation comes a little late."

later in the same episode...
Janeway: "Well then, if Mister Kim wants to suffer."
....
Janeway: "[...] From that first day, I've always felt more protective of you than the others."
Harry: "I appreciate that, but that was five years ago. I've changed."
Janeway: "Yes, you have."
Harry: "Maybe I'm not the perfect officer anymore."
Janeway: "Maybe not, but you're a better man."

Loved that conversation!!! :D

Harry: "Maybe I'm not the perfect officer anymore."
Janeway: "Maybe not, but you're a better man."

I love that conversation too, especially the way she sits next to him on the biobed. it harkens back to her version of his eulogy in "Coda".

Of course, one of my fav exchanges is from the controversial "Tuvix". Its the middle of the night, and Janeway is talking with Kes in her quarters. The words alone pale without hearing the struggle in Mulgrew's voice to hold Janeway steady.

JANEWAY: I know how you feel. You’re experiencing what people on this crew have been going through since we first got stranded in this quadrant. Do we accept that we’re separated from our loved ones forever? Or do we hold onto the hope that someday we’ll be with them again?
KES: What do you do, Captain?
JANEWAY: Oh, I struggle with it every day. Sometimes I’m full of hope and optimism. Other times. Then I dream about being with Mark and it’s so real. Then when I wake up and realize it’s just a dream, I’m terribly discouraged. In those moments, it’s impossible to deny just how far away he really is. And I know that someday I may have to accept that he’s not part of my life anymore.

When Harry challenges her in "The Disease" about whether she's "ever" been in love, she rightly slaps him down. Lucky for him, it was just rhetorically!

I LOVED that part of Tuvix!!! I really like all the serious conversations...like the "I need you" one in Prime Factors, after Tuvok exchanged the database for the technology...or the convo with Chakotay in Scorpion with the quote from my signature ;) Another great Janeway moment is in Imperfection when she's talking to Seven in astrometrics...*sighs* All really great scenes!

"That" scene from "Tuvix" is all the more telling when you consider which episode played the very next week.

JANEWAY: This is Kathryn Janeway. I've never liked saying good bye, so I'll make this brief. But I want you all to know that serving as your Captain has been the most extraordinary experience of my life... No Captain could ask more than what this crew has given. Bravery, compassion and strength of character. But I think what I'll miss most is the fun. The times we joked together, the games on the holodeck. I'll remember the laughter more than anything. Although Commander Chakotay and I won't be with you for the rest of your journey, we know that you'll be the same steadfast crew for Mister Tuvok as you have been for us. We wish you a safe and a speedy journey home. Our thoughts will be with you....Janeway out.

As I said over in the Name that Quote thread, I just watched that episode last night and this particular scene always brings tears to my eyes! I just love it!!! Thanks for posting the quote :) You made my day

KJ, if that brings a tear to your eyes, you should read fanfiction. I posted a link to my fav a few months ago. http://coffeenebula.com/cgi-bin/board.cgi?read=152021

Make sure you have a strong cup of coffee with you when you start. It is a bit long, but then again, its been ten years since Voyager came home and there's a lot of ground to cover. ;-)

JANEWAY: Sometimes it feels as though you've given up, that you're focused on making a home here instead of finding a cure that will let us leave.
CHAKOTAY: I can't sacrifice the present waiting for a future that may never happen. The reality of this situation is that we may never leave here. So, yes, I'm trying to make a home, something that's more than a plain, grey box.
JANEWAY: Someday I may have to let go. But not today, okay?

Thx for the link, I'll read it as soon as there's time.

This is another one that always brings tears to my eyes...and to hers ;)

Janeway: You've lived most of your life here. Voyager has been your home and you've been a vital part of this family. Oh, I'm going to miss you.

And just to prove she doesn't just coddle the ladies...

From "Emanations"

JANEWAY: It's not a reflection on your capabilities, Ensign. I just want to give you a chance to reflect on what's happened. This may not make much sense to you now, a young man at the beginning of his career, but one of the things you'll learn as you move up the ranks and get a little older is that you wish you had more time in your youth to really absorb all the things that happened to you. It goes by so fast. It's so easy to become jaded, to treat the extraordinary like just another day at the office, but sometimes there are experiences which transcend all that. You've just had one, Mister Kim, and I want you to live with it for a little while. Write about it, if you feel like it. Paint. Express yourself in some fashion. The Bridge will still be there in two days.

From "Timeless"

JANEWAY: My advice in making sense of temporal paradoxes is simple. Don't even try. To me all that matters is that somewhere, somehow, sometime, you come through for us. Well if you won't take it from me, take it from you. Seven found a log entry encoded in the telemetry. From Harry Kim, to Harry Kim.
