I remember that movie scaring me into nightmares!
Years later, I was on holiday in southern British Columbia, and there was a desert-like stretch of highway. We were in a little rented Toyota, and this huge trucker was behind us. For some reason he figured we weren't going fast enough, and decided to hurry us along (on or off the highway, whichever came first). Since speeding on those switchbacky roads in B.C. is a really dumb idea, we just kept to the speed limit... and I kept having flashbacks to the movie Duel and wondering if that jerk was trying to kill us...
Now if you want to stretch the definition of "car" a bit -- I nominate the chariot race in Ben-Hur! I don't even like horses, but I find this scene absolutely mesmerizing (and I've seen this movie probably close to a dozen times).
