Best Car Chase Poll - Nominations

The obvious choices have already been mentioned

Except for Mad Max. For every time I've watched that film all the way through, I've watched the intro by itself about five or six times.

*Smacks forehead*

You know--I racked my brains last night, trying to think of one that hadn't been mentioned. How could I forget Mad Max?

"I am the Night Rider! I'm a fuel-injected suicide machine!"

I just recently re-watched the Bourne trilogy, and I was reminded of just how good the car chases were in all three movies.

I'll add my vote for The Matrix Reloaded as well. It may be mostly CGI, but it looks damned impressive.

The people were CGI, but they built the looped highway and really smashed all those cars. If you look at all the cars flipping you can see that they weren't CGI since they all had their engines and gas tanks removed.

In my book, it looses points for being to..gratuitous? While fun to watch, just too over the top.

The 1.4-mile, three-lane loop highway was built specifically for the chase scene on the decommissioned Alameda Point Navy Base. It was destroyed when filming was complete.

In that second clip, the BMW vs a Peugeot (where else do you get to see such a great combination of cars?) I've heard that they used a RHD car, with a fake wheel in front of De Niro and a stunt driver behind the actual steering wheel beside him. The face that De Niro makes isn't acting, it's De Niro, clutching the wheel, unable to control the car, shitting himself :guffaw: For that alone it's worth watching.

The fact that the chase is so completely outrageous, barrelling down those narrow streets in such bog standard cars, is of course a bonus ;)

Hope his bladder was empty.
Another good one was in the first chase scene. Deniro, from the Benz RPGs a car on the mountain roadway and there was really a stunt driver in the car getting blown up.

Lightning McQueen vs Sheriff in Cars. Okay, so it's not much of a chase, but Lightning's destruction of Radiator Springs is so much fun!

Am I really the first person to nominate Attack of the Killer Tomatoes? ;)

Oh yeah, and Raising Arizona.

Forgot Raising Arizona-certainly fits into "most bizarre" chase scene. That poor baby!

Best chase scene-Terminator. A crippled Sarah Connor tries to get away from 1/2 of a terminator. No cars involved but damn intense!

Thinking of another chase, but with a different sort of pacing than most of those named so far -- another Needham-coordinated movie with Burt Reynolds called White Lightning. (Ned Beatty as the evil Sheriff who loses.)

I believe the Bullitt chase actually led SF to ban shooting car chases for a number of years because of the physical damage done to the streets.

T2: The T1000 coming after John Connor with this huge tow truck. Add to that Arnold on a Harley, and you've got a pretty cool car chase.

That's the first one I thought of.

There is also Raiders of the Lost Ark, Speed (Wasn't it just one long 90 minute bus chase?) and also from T2, the chase on the highway. Running off in the police armored car while being chased by a helicopter. Then being chased in a little truck by a 18 wheeler. Intense.

It couldn't have been too many years, because What's Up, Doc? (released four years after Bullitt) also featured a fairly extensive chase scene through San Francisco.

No mention of the Gone In 60 Seconds remake with Nicolas Cage and the Shelby GT500? The fact that Cage did most if not all of his on screen driving stunts makes it that much more impressive.

The finale of The Road Warrior
Both major chases in Ronin
The freeway/bridge chase in Bad Boys II
The Moscow chase in The Bourne Supremacy
The chase in The French Connection
The Mini Cooper getaway in The Italian Job remake
David Caruso chasing the T-Bird that ran over Angie Everheart through SF Chinatown in Jade
Angelina Jolie defies the laws of physics in a Viper in Wanted
All the chases from Smokey & the Bandit

The following BMW films:

Ambush by John Frankenheimer
Hostage by John Woo
Ticker by Joe Carnahan

Not nearly one of the best car chases but I commend you for mentioning this film from Reynolds' golden era (to me at least).
