You want to know why Sisko is winning this poll? Because somebody posted a thread about it in the DS9 forum with a link to this thread and after that Sisko slowly overtook Janeway. I think it is petty and utterly silly that people have gone to such lengths in order to win an internet poll which pops up at least 5 times a year, but weren't you one of the people who actually joined this board in order to vote for Janeway in that last poll? If so then you have no right to judge.

At least I made that thread on this message board in an appeal to currently active members of this board.

Says the guy who's been a member here for a little over a year. Honey, I hate to break it to you but you're still a newbie! ;)

September of '07 to almost March of '09 classifies me as a newbie?

It's still a hell of a lot longer than a week, which is how old this poll and a lot of the members who voted in it are.

No he was not, GodBen. Sisko was third - Kirk was first and Picard second. At least at the moment when I voted.
Poll start date: January 4th
Your join date: February 5th

There was a whole month before you voted. I voted on the first day of the poll and the poll ran on the first page until January 13th. At that point I am 90% certain Sisko was in the lead.

The poll reappeared on February 6th after somebody bumped it and at that point Sisko was apparently in third place. You voted on February 10th, the same day that Janeway's votes began to take off and she overtook Sisko. By February 11th she had overtaken Picard and Kirk to take first place.

What happened after that point I don't know because I stopped visiting GenTrek for a while due to being busy and I only went to the DS9, VOY, BSG and Lost forums for about a month.

Is it possible that we could just start another poll and sticky it? Forever? :p

I'm almost tempted to do that (considering this same topic came up a month ago). No one follows stickies, so it would be a bit pointless, though.

If this does come up again, whoever makes it should make it a public poll to avoid all this complaining, imo. Still, people are taking this way too seriously.

Well, then why not close this thread and make (as you said) a new but this time public poll? Yes, everyone would have to vote again, but the result might be different, and maybe with less whining...;)

I guess because the mods aren't accustomed to board members who're taking these kind of polls way too seriously. ;)

 Yeah, well, there's a first time for everything....:p

lol, more or less.

Plus, I'd rather not kill an 11 page thread for no good reason. It'll come up again, no need to start the discussion all over again.

Totally hooked by kirk.
the original is always hard to forget, kind of like the firt love or something similar.

How is Janeway still leading Kirk. TOS was way more popular/classic than Voyager, and Janeway iirc basically admitted to being in awe of Kirk's greatness. He's thrice the captain she ever was.

Since the original Best Captain discussion didn't have a poll, I took it upon myself to make one.

First off, Benjamin Sisko is the best captain for these reasons:

1) He is on the frontline of the Dominion War.
2) A messiah-like figure to an alien religion.
3) He trapped the Pah-wraith in the Bajoran Fire Caves.
4) He has a better backstory than the other captains.

Now who do you think is the best captain.

Kirk:

1. He was the youngest captain, in the history of starfleet and that record still stood for a century after. (into ng and deep space nine)

2. He is a risk taker and gets results and has a pretty good leg kick and knows how to fight very well...

3. He has favor in Starfleet Admiraty to getign the job done.

4. He took the enterprise on the 5 year mission and brought it back, the only
starship to return after that... The others were either destroyed or lost.

5. He was able to thwart an assassination attempt on the president.

6. He has saved the universe countless times over and countless lives of crew and other races.

7. He has had more human, alien and all kinds of poontang and laid more pipe in the universe than any other man... Green mauve, red, blue it doesn't matter he'd do it..

8. He knows how to command and choose his people well.

9. He is a born leader, and a fairly good negotator.

10. He is the quarterdeck breed and belongs on the bridge of a starship.

Eat that sisko... you are just a gay ass pansy compared to Kirk...

That was never stated onscreen.

How do you figure that?

Where was that said?

Eat that sisko... you are just a gay ass pansy compared to Kirk...
:wtf:

I'll see that :wtf: and raise you a  and a .

Those assertions are not rooted in canon.

Kirk was never established to be the youngest officer to make Captain on screen. It was part of the character background information developed for the show. He was thirty-one when he was named a Captain according to his entry on Memory Alpha, but it cites no source. (I suspect it has been allowed in since it is such a closely-held fanon fact and did come from background information.)

There was some reference to Tryla Scott being the youngest officer to make Captain at the time of TNG's 'Conspiracy' some 100 years later. She presumably made captain at 27 to outdo Picard's 28 when he is believed to have taken command of Stargazer.

The only starship class vessels (as we canonically don't know that they were called Constitution class) we know that were destroyed with all hands on five-year missions in TOS were Constellation and Defiant. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume both were on a five year mission. That's two. Likewise, the crew of the Exeter was killed but the ship was presumably recovered. That's technically three, but not a lost ship. The Excalibur was wrecked by the Enterprise herself during wargame M-5 tests in 'The Ultimate Computer,' not lost on a five-year mission. That's one destroyed, but technically not while on her five-year mission.

That's three crews possibly lost on five-year missions, and three ships destroyed. According to Kirk there were twelve like the Enterprise in the fleet. That leaves nine including the Enterprise. TOS-R tells us the Intrepid was also a starship class ship, so in retrospect when it was destroyed by the space amoeba it too may have been on a five-year mission, and that's TOS-R.

That leaves eight, including the Enterprise, that may have completed their missions. And that assumes there weren't other starships similar to the starship class on five year missions, yet not similar enough to be counted as 'like the Enterprise.'

I believe it was the non-canon 'Mr. Scott's Guide to the Enterprise' that suggested the idea that the Enterprise was the only ship to make it back originally, based on the adoption of Enterprise's ship insignia fleet-wide. Personally I find holes in this logic the size of a Galaxy class.

Eat that sisko... you are just a gay ass pansy compared to Kirk...

"Laddie... don't you think you should... rephrase that?" For so many reasons. :wtf:

I'll skip the thoughtfully worded post I was going to make and simply say what everybody is thinking; You're a moron.

Kirk:

Wrong
2. He is a risk taker and gets results and has a pretty good leg kick and knows how to fight very well...

wrong on both counts. he's actually pretty conservative and rule-abiding most of the time and he's fighting skills depend on a few judo chops and a flying kick.

3. He has favor in Starfleet Admiraty to getign the job done.

wrong. he got busted in rank for saving the day in TVH.

4. He took the enterprise on the 5 year mission and brought it back, the only
starship to return after that... The others were either destroyed or lost.

so very wrong

5. He was able to thwart an assassination attempt on the president.

give you that.

6. He has saved the universe countless times over and countless lives of crew and other races.

he only saved the universe once. in the alternative factor.

7. He has had more human, alien and all kinds of poontang and laid more pipe in the universe than any other man... Green mauve, red, blue it doesn't matter he'd do it..

wrong. he got laid about 3 times, tops. Spock got more tail.

8. He knows how to command and choose his people well.

so? i should hope ANY command-track Academy grad could command well.

9. He is a born leader, and a fairly good negotator.

wrong. he didn't negotiate a lot. he just smacked a few people around, threatened to smack some more around and talked a bunch of computers to death.

10. He is the quarterdeck breed and belongs on the bridge of a starship.

and?

Eat that sisko... you are just a gay ass pansy compared to Kirk...

charming. and so very wrong.

If anyone wants to challenge the awesomeness of The Sisko, step forward and I shall prove ye mortals wrong!!!!!
