Sally meets a ghostly new friend who teaches her how to cross physical boundaries like the apartment. Josh gets roped into the Neighborhood Watch against his wishes. Aidan is recognised by the son of one of his past victims, who is determined to confront Aidan about his father's murder.

Above Average - Quite a good episode, I'd say. The 80's ghost was great, and the vampire story ended on the right (and interesting) note.

Just wondering - have they diverged from the British series now?

Well, it is only the third episode. It seems like the major beats are there but there's differences in approach and tone and a lot of the details.

For example, Sally is non-corporeal in the US version (so far) while it seems Annie could manipulate objects right from the start in the UK.

I know I shouldnt complain about this in a show about vampires & werewolves but I found the whole actual "door to the other side" really cheesy...the 80s ghost too.

But the actual plot of the episodes are the same? I remember reading that episode 1 was basically the "second" British pilot re-filmed.

^^ I guess I would say that they've remade segments of the plot but the episodes aren't straight remakes of the other. Some elements are dropped or shifted but it's not unrecognizable either. I don't think there's a lot of new original plotted segments though.

I don't know if that makes total sense, if pressed I would say 'yes' to the question if the plot are the same.

As far as the pilot, they've borrowed from the original pilot as much as the first UK episode. So far they've taken from 1x00 1x01 and 1x03 of the UK series but Aiden(Mitchell) is a bit further along his arc and Sally(Annie) is further back in hers.

Well, this was another good episode. I'm glad they resolved the "Trapped Sally" plot so quickly, but I hope they have a good justification for her remaining a roommate.

I've just got two major beefs: 1) Why are Vampires such messy eaters? Dude's an intelligent, civilized guy-- he's even trying to break ties with the Vampire underground-- yet he invariably gets his food all over his face. What's up with that? 2) If Sally can't touch anything solid, why does she have no problem sitting in chairs or on the couch-- or standing on the floor? Seems like they always make this mistake every time a show has a non-corporeal character.

1.) He was REALLY hungry. I mean really hungry after losing so much blood.

2.) It would look silly if the ghosts were perpetually falling through the earth, although they should at least be floating.

Just wondering if I can work up the "effort" to watch the show considering series 3 just started in the UK. I'm assuming at some point they'll need to do original episodes though since between S1/2, they only have 16 episodes to take from?

A piece of advice - Just stop comparing it to the UK show.

Let it be its own thing. Some things will be similar or the same, others will not. It is a remake, so one just has to deal with that fact.

firehawk12, Either watch it or don't. Does it really take that much "effort" to decide that? Of course there will be fully original stuff. (as opposed to the things that are already different) It's not a "shot for shot remake", I don't think it has ever pretended to be such a thing.

Honestly, I've heard that the Skins, Shameless and Being Human pilots were fairly similar to their originals and since the new seasons of the originals have started/are airing, I'm not sure I want to spend my time on them.

An hour's just an hour, sure... but there are only so many hours in the day.

If you've been watching the UK version I would hold off watching the US version for the time being.

Yeah, I know, but I think they overdid it. I've been really hungry, too, and I never went all Cookie Monster.

2.) It would look silly if the ghosts were perpetually falling through the earth, although they should at least be floating.
Yeah, they really should. The answer to that is that it probably costs too much.

She's a ghost not Geordi LaForge, who knows what laws and rules are in place?

Well, whatever they are, they should be consistent. If she can touch a table and chair, why not a newspaper? Of course, it could be a subconscious mental block, but by now one of the guys would have noticed and mentioned it.
