Beastie Boys in Trek XI

I thought the usage of that song in the movie was great! But then again, I was always a fan of the Beasties. :)

I thought its inclusion worked really well, but since the music was coming from the car, I kind of expected it to fade as the car fell off a cliff.

I just about squeeled when he cranked up the car stereo and it was Beastie Boys. Loved it!

I enjoyed the cut of that scene where the song fades out over the shot of Vulcan. It gave me a sense of contrast between the two worlds. Earth being crazy and Vulcan being controlled and logical. Until the onion layers came off and revealed Spock to be a deeply emotional character when he went full pelt at the bully. Delving a bit deeper (and off topic), you could say that the two exstablishing scenes of kirk and spock were in direct opposites. The first scene of kirk had him being cocky at the policeman and the second saw him in a fight, where with Spock he had a fight first and then a he was cocky towards the council.

My two cents

Beastie Boys in a Trek Flick?

Ok I have'nt seen it yet but I saw a snippet of the chase scene in the begiining, did Abrams really use the Beastie Boys in a Trek Film? Geez nothing screams 24th century more that that, instead of Sabotage I would've preferred No Sleep to Brooklyn it's a personal fave.

Thought it a fun touch - made me think of all the additional years of pop culture that will be added to the human experience by then - not just the art and literature and science and blah blah blah

Re: Beastie Boys in a Trek Flick?

Well you kind of have to recognise the track. I didn't, put it that way, so I just got the effect of the music as music - and it worked fine. I'm still not sure which piece it was anyway

Are you very young? I thought EVERYBODY knew that song.

I'm just not a fan in a very emphatic way. I've just read the other thread on the topic, listened to the track, still don't recognise it  ah well.

Re: Beastie Boys in a Trek Flick?

I loved it, then again I've been both a Trek and a Beastie Boys fan for years, so I was bound to find it pretty inspired.

I loved the inclusion of the Beastie Boys track. If one hadn't noticed, it was a clear marker that the movie unfolding wasn't the Trek that came before.
