I picked up "I am Legend" and happened to notice this in the background of the movie:

It hard to make the date out, but it is either May 15, 2010 (Sat) or May 19, 2010 (Wed).

Or is it just some fanboy's wish who was working on the CGI.

That's just the producers of I am Legend having a good laugh. There's also a poster of The Green Lantern (outside of the rental store).

Someone -- George Miller? -- wanted to make a Superman/Batman movie with Daniel Day Lewis and Mel Gibson. But that was a while ago.

Cute joke. Look, it's the ultimate fanboy wet dream! Forever locked in a vault somewhere in LA...probably not even the final cut.

Maybe they are telling us it will be the end of the world as we know it before this film will be a reality.

bingo

Pretty much.

I know quite some time ago there was a Batman VS Superman movie planned but thankfully someone realised what a profoundly stupid idea that is not mention orders of magnitude a one-sided "fight."

As cool as a "Batman and Superman" movie would be, it will indeed be the end of the world before we see it.

Incidently, it'd likely be the Wednesday date since it's more likel a movie will come out on a Wednesday (for the Memorial Day weekend) than a Saturday unless the movie is also trying to predict a substantial change in how the industry works.

...

When did I Am Legend come out on DVD?

That was introduced by the producers of the film as an injoke. After Batman & Robin the plan was (when Batman 5 fizzled out) to make a new film that would reignite both the Batman and the Superman franchises by pitting them against each other in a pseudo Worlds Finest. It was going to be directed by Wolfgang Petersen and was to be written by Andrew Walker. The frontrunner for Bruce Wayne was Christian Bale but Superman was uncast (the rumor was that Josh Hartnett was in the running but turned them down). Then rumors were that Jude Law would play Superman and that Colin Farrel would be Batman. There were to be a lot of comparisons to 9/11 as Gotham had just been hit by a devastating disaster that pushed Batman over the edge (some rumors said that Batman blamed Superman for what happened).

Warner Brothers squashed the film though because of reshoots of Troy that would have prevented it from being a Summer film.

The Yahoo Movies page for the film still exists.

Teen Titans and Green Lantern are also being considered by Warner Brothers. They are currently considered for after the release of a Justice League film.

^ Since it won't let me edit.

The tragedy that caused Batman to turn on Superman involved the death of Batman's girlfriend.

It'd be a two minute fight, so long as Superman took the kid-gloves off.

Even with the kid-gloves Superman's got a strong edge by being, you know, invincible.

You've CLEARLY never read The Dark Knight Returns, or whichever Frank Miller book it was in which they fought.

Being invincible doesn't change that fact that it would be supergenius vs farmboy.
