Bar 'n' Grill - Part II

^Heh, wait till you see the one coming up for Ultraviolet.
I tried to make O'Brien look like Milla Jovovich in the movie, but he turned out more like Ozzy Osbourne! :D

Good Afternoon all,

Good to see the Bar busy. Today has been a bit of a sad day. When I first started my college, I found out on the night on the final exam that my history teacher had passed away the day before. That was about 3 and a half years ago. Today, I found out that a councelor who I knew and talked to a few times passed away in November from an abnormal tumor. So in my four years at college, a teacher and a councelor who I knew have passed away. That's not good. :(

That's terrible, tomalak! :(

I know how you feel. A few years ago my 9th grade English teacher died of cancer. When I was in college not too long ago I'd come back during the summers and visit her at school (my mother taught there, too). She was great to chat with, and I was very sad when my mom informed me of her passing. We may rag on our teachers, but they do do a lot for us.

Guys, I hate to make this comment, but please do not spam this thread. This thread is NOT a lounge thread, so all the stuff that is really lounge material needs to be moved there.

This thread is for community discussion. Not for spam. I don't mind a few one-offs here and there in good fun, but todays postings are pretty heavy on the lounge material, and with the exception of tomalak's post and a couple of others, pretty light on the community discussion. ;)

You don't have to elimiate goofing off completely...but we can't have a lounge thread in the DS9 forum. Community thread, yes. Lounge thread, no.

Thanks,

The (Buzzkill) Management :p

Sorry to hear that tomalak. :(

*offers glass of Romulan Ale*

Thanks. I was shocked when I heard the news. Evidently she wasn't doing all that great, coughing a lot and just couldn't breath. She was disabled to in that she was a midget (Not a disability) but very small arms and hands. I didn't meet with her on a regular basis, but I saw her occasionally, and dispite what she had, she still did her job efficently. She will be missed. :(

How is the ol' Commie Lounge doing? Right now the RAL has been pretty quiet now that a few regular spammers have been promoted.

Boy, you need to get to the Admiral's Lounge! Bloaty's waiting for you there. :guffaw:

Vash, you've emptied the bar! :p

Only teasin', some of us *cough*such as me*cough* did get a bit carried away yesterday.

I apologise.

^ No worries.

And I don't mind *some* messing around in this thread. After all, the point is to have a good time. :)

We just have to be careful that this thread maintains the 'feel' of a bunch of friends sitting around having a drink together...and not the 'feel' of a spam thread in the lounge. ;)

*grabs a bottle of kanar*

What's up gang?

I've been feelin really shitty the past few weeks.
I had a nasty stomach flu that didn't want to go away.
I can't figure out how the frak I got it though.

*picks up sand-pea from the floor and eats it*

Stupid thing also ruined my 8 year long record of not throwing up.

Some good came out of it though, because I finally had some time to read (which I don't do often enough).

First thing I read was Andy Robinson's "A Stitch in Time".
Great book, absolutely loved it. Although the end was kinda depressing with Spoiler:
all the political chaos on Cardassia and Garak not finding Palandine
. Poor Garak can't catch a break.

I'm also really gettin into fanfic right now. My favourites are the firefly Jayne/River stories. I tell ya, that shit is addictive. I'm even writing a River/Jayne story myself right now.

I have also been thinking about downloading the DS9 Relaunch ebooks. Are they any good?

^ Well I have to say that so far I've loved all the DS9 relaunch books. Just make sure you read them in the proper order. :)

Oh my gosh....I had never even thought about seeking out Firefly fanfic...I'm going to have to find myself some of that.

And I *highly* recommend the DS9 relaunch!! Excellent books! I really can't think of any in the DS9 Relaunch so far that were duds, but of course some are more exciting than others. I've heard several people say that they treat the Relaunch as if it's DS9's actual eighth season.

firefly section of fanfiction.net - Linky

I'd recommend "Elsewhere", "Destined", "Delta Rain", "What just happened?", "Never a Normal Relationship" and "A Boy Named Sue".

I gotta warn you though, they're all River/Jayne, sexually explicit and sometimes really violent.
In short - wholesome entertainment. :D

Thanks, I'll definitely sit down and read some sometime! :D I'm not really into sexually explicit fanfic, but it looks like there's plenty of milder stuff there to keep me entertained!

Another fan of the DS9 relaunch here. ;)

Definately some of the best written Trek books, and I look upon them as an 8th and 9th season.

^^stkids; actually "Never a Normal Relationship" is pretty mild and romantic (I think 'fluffy' is the fanfic term) except for maybe 1/2 chapter. BTW, I cried at least three times when I was reading it.

If the sexually explicit stuff is bothering you, just skip through it. I do the same (most of the time). ;)

Wait a minute, how many books are there? I mean if one book equals one episode and 25 episodes equal one season that would make ... 50? Damn, looks like I aint running out of reading material for a long time.

Unfortunately no, there aren't 50 books in the relaunch. I don't know offhand the number and don't care to look it up at the moment, but I'd guess about ten or so, depending on how you count what's included in the Relaunch. Most of the books detail events that cover a longer period of time than what you'd see in a particular episode. And then there are some gaps in the action between particular books, hence it ends up covering about a couple seasons' worth of time.
